I am sick of people not understanding why we post broken links!

We do this so they can't track where we are coming from. If they see a couple hundred people voting from this site for Ron in 30min, it makes us look bad.

Please understand the internet!

[Admin Note: Welcome LGF readers! Thanks for stopping by. The forum members here have the freedom of choice to decide if they want to break links or not based on their free will. Link breaking is not a feature of this forum. It's a great problem to have so many people supporting Dr. Paul that are organized on the web, freedom is popular and that is the heart of the Dr. Paul movement. Simple and beautiful. You can learn more about your constitutionally guaranteed freedoms by visiting www.RonPaulLibrary.org and www.RonPaul2008.com. Good day!]

And some people just user FireFox with disabled/changed Referrer header and hate those damn broken links :) So yes, I'm the hater of broken links!

LISTEN DINGBATS WHO MAKE CLICKABLE LINKS TO POLLS!

Client web browsers pass what is called a referrer to the destination webserver if you click a link. THIS IS LOGGED!

It shouldn't matter anyway but it gives our enemies more ammo to fling back at us.

By typing a URL (or copy 'n pasting) there is no referrer sent to the destination.

I'd encourage ronpaulforums.com to remove the ability to even have 'clickable' links because of this issue.

When you're making a new post, there is a checkbox that says "Automatically parse links in text". It's checked by default. I'm not familiar with the vBulletin system, but there's probably an option for the admin to make it unchecked by default.

It's cool...those who do it by accident are asked to change it very quickly.

I think we all have been handling it very smoothly lately ;)

If there is a way for the mods to do something automatically..that would be cool...but would it effect anything else???

All the current active online polls are listed in the Ron Paul Gateway database. The links are configured to be anonymous, so the poll sites do not know where people came from.

If you see any that are missing, ask them to be added. Then people can quickly vote in it AND the other active polls at the same time.

A thread should be sticky for this....but we have so many stickys....

...sometimes I wonder where this board has been :p:D:p

Nice!
Thanks for sharing.

Be nice...

Please keep in mind that there are a lot of different people using this forum. Not everybody understands this. I personally know of a 70-something grandmother who didn't even own a computer before she joined in the Ron Paul Revolution. You don't want to alienate folks like her, do you?

I just get annoyed at the people who make every link broken. I understand the polls, but news articles, videos, blog, etc... come on people.

You really don't have to break the links.. just make sure they aren't parsed.

Oh my god! If those damn ron paul supporters can organize 'get-out-the-vote' drives using the internet, those neocons are F*****!!!

I Love the new welcome mat for the LGFers!

(Is that a valid term? As in "you no good war-mongering debt loving neocon LGFer!")?

I've never heard of LGF, don't care or even want to know. Sounds like a stupid name to me. I do know that just like hundreds of thousands of people, I and my family support Ron Paul and don't care what they or anyone else think.

If anyone else would like to do this to protect their privacy, here's a quick tutorial:

Privacy Tip #3: Block Referer Headers in Firefox
Yes, but I'd recommend using an extension rather than changing the configuration manually - sometimes you need to enable this header for given sites (and extension will allow you to do it). It's also worth noting, that some sites depend on this header (as a way to prevent hotlinking) when loading resource files (like images), so it's possible you won't be able to see images on some sites etc. It has some disadvantages, but not too many - at least in my every day browsing.

EDIT: What the hell is LGF?
