People have already covered it pretty well. The reasons US politicians kiss up to Israel so much in word and deed are:
(1) The Israel lobby, which includes groups like AIPAC and ZOA. This lobby is easily one of the most powerful in D.C. Nearly all US politicians are in its pocket.
Sometimes, when they think gentiles aren't listening, members of AIPAC brag about their influence. For example:
So much for "ZOG" being a paranoid conspiracy theory, eh? Some good books have been written on this subject, including one by a former member of Congress (They Dare To Speak Out by Paul Findley).
(2) Although Jews are only about 2-3 percent of the US population, campaign donations from wealthy Jewish donors play a major role in US elections. Much of this may even be independent of the Israel lobby. If memory serves, about 50% of donations to the Democratic Party come from Jewish sources. I'm sure the percentage is also quite high for the Republican Party, though I've never seen an actual figure stated.
(3) Pro-Israel propaganda coming from Zionist Jews in the media, in think tanks, and in political office.
(4) "Christian" Zionists who have been misled (often by Zionist Jews posing as Christian preachers or televangelists) into believing that the Bible says that modern "Israel" is to be supported at all costs. In fact, the entire New Testament teaches "replacement theology": i.e., followers of Jesus (regardless of Jewish or gentile birth) are "Abraham's children" and "God's people." This is so clearly laid out in the NT that one would have to be illiterate not to see it. That's why I wonder how many of these "Christian" Zionists have even read the Bible. For example, see John 8:31-59. Or, more directly, Galatians 3:28-29:
I don't see how it could be more clear as far as the Bible is concerned. "Abraham's children" are Christians, regardless of ethnic background. Game, set, and match. But the rest of the NT basically says the same thing, albeit less plainly and often in the form of parables.
The quote often parroted by "Christian" Zionists ("I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you...") was actually God speaking to Abraham, not to any modern state of Israel.
(Full disclosure: I have no religious beliefs. But I have read the Bible, and I understand it.)

"We're going to make sure that pro-Israel students take over the student government and reverse the vote. This is how AIPAC operates in our nation's capitol. This is how AIPAC must operate on our nation's campuses."
