Report: Iran Launches Attack Against Israel with Long-range Drones

JOEL B. POLLAK 13 Apr 2024

AMNUN, northern Israel — Iran launched drones against Israel on Saturday that are en route, though they may take hours to arrive, according to Israeli media sources.

The attack is supposedly in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on April 1 that eliminated seven senior Iranian military officials, including two generals, in Damascus, Syria. Iran has been using its terrorist proxies to attack Israel for decades, and accelerated those attacks after the Hamas invasion of October 7.

In anticipation of the attack, Israel’s Home Front Command canceled school for the next two days, and ordered demonstrations in favor of the hostages still in Gaza — a Saturday night tradition in much of the country — to disperse. Other large gatherings were also banned.

A military briefing scheduled with Breitbart News for Sunday morning was also abruptly canceled due to the ongoing attack.

It is not clear whether Israel’s aerial defense system will be able to manage the drone attack, and whether Israel will — as promised — attack Iranian territory in response.

Fighter jets were heard overhead in the northern Galilee on Saturday evening.

The drone attack could mark a dramatic escalation in a conflict that has been fueled for three-and-a-half decades by Iranian radicalism against the West.

Update: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement:

Citizens of Israel,

In recent years, and especially in recent weeks, Israel has been preparing for a direct attack by Iran.

Our defensive systems are deployed; we are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong.

We appreciate the US standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries.

We have determined a clear principle: Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We will defend ourselves against any threat and will do so level-headedly and with determination.

Citizens of Israel, I know that you also are also level-headed. I call on you to follow the directives of IDF Home Front Command.

Together we will stand and with G-d’s help – together we will overcome all of our enemies.

Israel Defense Forces Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari issued a statement describing a single drone launched by Iran, from its own territory. Israel has said that any attack from Iranian territory would result in an attack on Iran.

The neocons are finally getting their war with Iran. Hope they're grateful to Israel for the excuse. And I hope they say thank you while there's still an Israel to thank.

The war is going to back fire on NeoCons that wanted it.
Its going to bite them in the behind.

Iran today isn't Today's Iraq.

They waited several years to late.

So according to the un elected Prime Minster of UK.
Iran has no right to respond after the Israelis had attacked and killed several people on the Iranian embassy in Syria.

Here we go. Is this going to be the big one? Will Biden get the US involved?

I saw a report that US and UK jets are currently firing on Iranian drones, but the link doesn't look reputable.

It looks like the S might be about to HTF.

Looks like almost everything fired was shot down. It almost seems like this was a way for Iran to save face about their embassy getting attacked. They announce an attack and send some slow movers that they know will get intercepted.

Iran has begun an airborne attack against Israel. President Biden is being regularly updated on the situation by his national security team and will meet with them this afternoon at the White House. His team is in constant communication with Israeli officials as well as other partners and allies. This attack is likely to unfold over a number of hours. President Biden has been clear: our support for Israel’s security is ironclad. The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support their defense against these threats from Iran.

I'd be surprised if Iran was able to legitimately inflict any harm on any nation actually capable of defending themselves.

But regardless, Izrael has been dying for an excuse to attack Iran, essentially the only "hostile" nation left in the Middle East.

I disagree. They have some serious cruise missles. Enough at once could overwhelm Israel's air defenses.

This seems more like a measured response designed to avoid further escalation.

Dunno if that info is accurate.

I had to look up the difference:

According to the Federation of American Scientists, a ballistic missile is one that has a ballistic trajectory over most of its flight path. What that means is that once the missile burns up the fuel that propels it, the missile keeps moving, the same way that a bullet does after it's been fired out of a gun. Once the fuel is gone, the missile's direction can't be altered. It follows a path determined by the speed of its launch and the force of gravity trying to pull it back toward the Earth's surface. Eventually, gravity guides the missile — and its payload, which might be an explosive, a chemical or biological weapon, or a nuclear device — down toward its target.

Ballistic missiles are different than cruise missiles. Cruise missiles are self-propelled for the majority of their time in the air, flying in a relatively straight line and at lower altitudes thanks to a rocket propellant. Think of a ballistic missile's flight path as a large arc up and back down again, while that of a cruise missile — fired from a warship, for instance — is closer to a straight line.
