The economics should be solved without a care for race or culture.

I don't think public policy decisions should be affected by the economy anyway. We don't want Congress trying to be a chef for the economy and saying one day, "Needs some more immigrants," and another day, "needs less immigrants," like they're ever gonna tweak it the right way.

I see basic ethical principles behind this discussion that don't change with the economy. Speaking of that, let's set aside the abstractions about culture and demographics and wishful thinking about what a country should look like. What exactly do those who think the government's role includes preserving some culture or demographics think it should be doing? Do they really think it's ok for the government to make employers tell them who all their employees are and make sure they have the government's permission to work here?

That portion of the "economics" of immigration is easily solved by removing the taxpayer-sponsored incentives for coming here. Restore the societal filters or rather abolish the numerous incentives like I discussed before, and the less dependents will stay. You will only get the cream of the crop.

I know Hispanic Americans that are just as opposed to that nonsense as anyone. I know others who grew out of it. I know a couple who still are true believers, and make "white" people jokes all the time (even though they are married to "white" people).

But when these balkanized, isolated factions form, violence isn't usually far behind. No communication or commonality leads to severe problems down the line.

You are assuming that is even possible. History suggests when you have a situation where the differences in culture, intelligence, and social norms are that extreme, there can really be no assimilation, even at the barest level. That's why this is an important story. Eventually, London is going to become England's Kosovo.

No one said anything about punishing you. All signs and information would be in English only. If you want to be a part of this country, you'd have to learn English. As it is now, there are double prints on instructions, translators, etc. that add to the cost of goods and services.
