They really want the Empire to strike back.
Citing a need for increased “space superiority” and job creation, over 13,000 people have signed an official petition on WhiteHouse.gov demanding that the United States government secure funds and resources and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016. “By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense,” reads the petition. As of Monday morning, it had received 13,302 signatures -- far more than nearly every other petition on the site. A proposal to increase the budget of NASA has received just 3,964 votes. A call for protection for Guatemalan citizens in light of recent earthquakes: 8,563. A suggestion that federal employees get Christmas Eve off has received 14,646 votes. Despite the groundswell of enthusiasm for the plan -- which was filed under “science and space policy” -- it stands little chance of reaching President Obama’s desk. The petition needs another 11,700 signatures to reach the 25,000 threshold necessary for the government to take it seriously. “The right to petition your government is guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution,” the website explains. And while the Death Star concept passed the first threshold of 150 signatures, which makes it searchable on the site, it has until Dec. 14 to cross that line. If it fails, the petitioner may have to scale back his demands: perhaps the right to bear lightsabers?

Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.
Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.

I'm assuming it will look like the other one he has already furnished us......:D

If Darth Vader couldn't complete the Death Star on schedule, I doubt the government can.

Our Dear Leader can do ANYTHING. Haven't you been watching the news? No, not Fox, the other news.

Vader wasn't in charge of Death Star construction, IIRC. It was that Admiral that Vader nearly choked to death with the Force.
Grand Moff Tarkin was in charge of the first death star. the one the teenager blew up. I mean who leaves an exhaust port that big expose in a trench on surface. I mean, straight shot exhaust pipe.
The Emperor oversaw the construction of the second, even then, government couldn't get it done. a bunch of care bears took them down.

It's just not the same without the late, great Peter Cushing. The problem with the 21st century is that the tyrants aren't in the least bit dignified and respectable (even if through fear). Give me Vlad the Impaler over these limp-wristed tyrants any day. Anything less is just insulting to me.

All I have to say is that thank God the internet exists to make fun of every stupid distraction the establishment can ever throw at us from now on, as in this stupid .gov petition thing in this case.

Since at this point US society is irrevocably split into two camps, on one hand those who believe Keynesian propaganda, where the only cure for unsustainable debt is more debt, and on the other those who believe that a return to a gold standard is the only way to prevent an epic socio-political collapse, also known in official US circles as "extremists", and since we know that the status quo will never let the latter get their way without a fight (quite literally and quite violently), it is only logical that 'if you can't beat them you have to join them'. In which case we believe that instead of breaking windows, or starting wars, or even expecting a growth boosting alien invasion that would lead to a surge in GDP that may or may not come, one should not only go for broke, but do so in style. As such we propose that the US, already the world's most expansionist and aggressive foreign policy power, not like there is anything wrong with that of course - it is all for the sake of liberating oppressed foreign oil, should one up itself and build the true symbol of its contemporary socio-historical status: the Imperial Death Star. Yet the real benefit in addition to blowing up various alien world that refuse to bail out the world's central bank confederacy, is that the cost of construction of said Keynesian masterpiece, would be an epic $852 quadrillion, which in turn would go straight to US GDP.

This White House petition thing is such a joke at this point. Has it brought any real positive changes? Nope.

Asking the government for help is about the last way positive change comes.

.
That's basically what voting is, though. And I agree it's one of the least effective ways to affect change.
