TULSA (KTUL) — Tulsa Police say a man slashed a woman's throat on a city bus Sunday afternoon.

The victim underwent surgery at the hospital and is in stable condition, police say.

Police responded just after 1 p.m. to reports of a stabbing incident at the downtown bus station located at 300 S. Cheyenne Ave. Witnesses told police the suspect left the scene and provided the direction he was last seen walking.

Bicycle patrol officers found Robert J. Rhoades, 42, at 100 S. Denver Ave. Rhoades had blood on his clothing and a bloody knife was found in his pocket. He was taken into custody without incident.

Witnesses, including the bus driver, told police that Rhoades and the 43-year-old victim boarded the bus at the Walmart stop at 81st and Lewis. Rhoades sat directly behind her, and they had no prior interactions or verbal exchanges. As the bus arrived at the main station, Rhoades reached around and allegedly assaulted the victim by slicing her throat before leaving the scene.


TPD says they are awaiting video footage from the bus.

Rhoades has been booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and false impersonation. He is also being held on a fugitive warrant out of Missouri.

I can only find one local report, which is referenced in a couple of places. It is not reported beyond that.

So the victim didn't die, and video footage has not been released, which would sensationalize the crime. Quite often, this would be the last we ever hear about an attack like this. If footage gets released, no doubt we will hear more.
