Which about government schools that causes the dumbness of americans?

They don't seem to help kids deal with problems..
The "unmanageable" ones are dealt with isolation, whereas trying to instill a positive environment for mentally unstable kids would help a lot better.
If you're not like everyone else, then you're stupid.
An 'us vs. them' mentality runs easily, and most of the administration continues that, whether intentionally or not.

Let us get back to not making a math test that is multiple choice.... there is only one answer.
Then todays four year state college grad has the equivalency of education as a 1950s high school graduate.
Technically, research is showing now that IQ is not fixed and can be changed, but to change it, you need the right kind of brain activity, and that's just not happening today. I blame the dumbing down of schoolwork.
I was talking with my high school English teacher about this, and she talked about how reading material that she used to be required to teach 10th graders was now considered 12th grade material. That's what's happening and why people are so stupid.
Not to mention, my economics teacher and civics teacher were both hard-core democrats who made us write "republicans=monarchy democrats=people" on our tests.

Technically, research is showing now that IQ is not fixed and can be changed, but to change it, you need the right kind of brain activity, and that's just not happening today. I blame the dumbing down of schoolwork.

You had some dumb teachers. Republic means rule by law and democracy means rule by many or mob rule if you ask me.
The fundamental problems with government schools:
* Compulsory rules that every student must follow or else. These include forced vaccinations, submitting to authority, intimidation by school authorities, general detention-like atmosphere, completely anti-educational restrictions (no iPods, no cell phones, no water, etc.)
* Curriculum: Most teachers are liberals or lean liberal. The text books, specifically the history textbooks are written with this formula *big bad businessmen, investors, or people do something, the government comes in to save the day, the government is the only one that can save us.*
* Environment: Students are taught to obey and submit. This is to prepare them for obeying their government later in life. Nobody likes someone who stands up for their rights, if everyone did that, the government could never save us. Free thinking is discouraged. Think of the bell system. Remind you of a factory? Why can't you leave the classroom until it leaves? Sounds like slavery.
* Teachers: Those same liberal teachers teach that liberalism is the only way of life. Virtually every single English teacher I have ever had was a far left liberal. We spoke about the government making laws and how bad and evil businesses were for trying to make a profit. If the other side was also taught, more kids would be Libertarians/Constitutionalists. Instead, kids are taught that the Constitution is a "living document."
* Tenure system: Technically, in most states, teachers don't have to legally teach, just take attendance. This must be changed.
* School work: In general, most of it is crap kids will never use. The children are ushered in to classes they don't want to take and they become apathetic about school.
There are more, but that's what I could think of off the top of my head.
P.S. Try going to a private school versus a public one. The difference is measured in light years.

The schools are doing just what they are designed to do: produce generation after generation of semi literate proles, taught just enough to worship the state, work in some mindless drone of days or pick up a rifle and go kill people when told to do so.

I don't think school really has much to do with it. I dropped out of public school in 8th grade for most part and self educated myself to where I am today. I did eventually goto college and complete a B.S.E.E., but I didn't learn a damn thing in public school past 7th grade.
Some people are smart, others aren't. School can give you knowledge and tell you facts, but I don't think it can make a dumb person smart. If anything, it stops one from developing the ability to teach themselves new things.
A public school doesn't need/want to. Put them in a private school/home schooling and their chances of being "smart" go through the roof.

nah, it's designed so 100 is always average.
I think the compulsory schooling laws are the main problem. Kids are forced to go to a place they don't want to go so they resist it such as playing hookey, thinking of ways to cut class, etc.
Finally they are forced to listen to a certain point of view of the world and they don't even have time to fully research on just what homeschooling is. They don't see what kind fo scholarships there are, what colleges they can get into, or how they can still socialize, etc.

Public schools (aka government schools) are staffed by people who have worked for the government (or been schooled by other government staffers) their entire lives. There is a tremendous systemic bias toward teachers and staff who see the government as a force for good in society, because government has always been good to them.

Overemphasis of standardized testing = academic success. No Child Left Behind forces teachers to "teach to the test" with multiple choice answers. Not to mention the fact the federal goverment has completely underfunded NCLB and states are forced to pay millions on tests each year. That money could be better used for classroom supplies or helping students.
The tests themselves are up to the states, but many focus on literacy or mathematics (which is fine), but neglect other important areas such as Social Studies and Science. Who needs to know about the Constitution anyway?
Teachers are told basically to teach to the students in the "middle" academically to help their schools achieve well on standardized testing.
Not to mention the fact, public education is basically a one track system. You ethier succeed in literacy or mathematics or your basically stuck in remedial classes.
