I looked around a little and didn't see any threads about this, so I decided to make one. I think it would be beneficial to know where all of the people on this forum heard about Ron Paul. It is interesting to know, and also lets us see what is getting the word out and what isn't. I'll start with my story.

I use Digg.com alot, and a few days after the first debate there was a front page article about Ron Paul. I don't remember what it was about, but the comments were intriguing, and one of them said spend five minutes reading his wikipedia article and you will be a Ron Paul supporter too, so I did, and here I am.

So, how did all of you guys hear about him? Make sure to say when as well.

I first heard of him through the New Jersey Libertarian Party's message board .. I was skeptical at first hm.. I wanted to stick with the LP candidate, but then, I read into him, I saw his vids, I was bought... Ron Paul! :D

I was reading Mish's Global Economic Trend Analysis blog - an Excellent economics blog for the uninitiated (Mish is a big Ron Paul supporter of course). I think Ron has actually commented there before.

I was on an e-mail discussion list server and someone posted his "neo-conned" piece:
http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2003/cr071003.htm

That was around early '04 but I really didn't start putting 2+2 together until a few months later when I kept running into his name on some other issues as a result of my interest in the 2004 election. Once I starting to connect things and looking deeper I was hooked.

I had the same experiance. And I think that just shows, all we really have to do is spread the message. Ron Paul's stance on the issues, and more importantly the reasoning for it is enough to get most any TRUE American to support him.

First learned of and became mildly interested in Dr. Paul after the first Republican debate. Leading up to the second debate, I decided to check out YouTube because I think I remember reading somewhere (can't remember where, probably one of the forums I frequent) that there were some useful videos of him there. I'm not normally a YouTube person, but I looked, and after watching two or three of them, I was rather addicted to finding more. By the time the second debate came around, I was already a Paul fan.

Wow, I feel like an old timer now! lol!

Literally - I discovered Dr. Paul years ago.

Quick synopsis of my path:

Met hubby 13 years ago, hubby was a subscriber to The FreeMan: Ideas on Liberty (monthly publication of www.fee.org - shameless plug: USE THAT SITE IT IS A FANTASTIC RESOURCE. SEARCH ON ANY TOPIC - THERE ARE PROBABLY ARTICLES ON YOUR TOPIC THERE! ;) ), started reading that and WOW, impressive. Changed my worldview.

Heard mentions in that of Mises, through internet found Mises.org, from there found LewRockwell.com. First met Dr. Paul at a Mises Institute event I think about 5 years ago, have met him several times since.

Found out in April at the Houston Mises Circle that he was running.

Was able to remain aloof and mild about it until the first debate :o , then BAM! I got the RP fever :D .

:)

When I was in high school, I was searching for someone/something that fit my beliefs. I agreed with Republicans on some things, Democrats on others. Then I found Dr. Paul who was in Congress at the time. He brought me home ideologically. This would have been about 25 years ago--had the pleasure of voting for him in 1988!

How I discovered Ron Paul

Well! Firstly I'm a UK citizen so I really found out about Ron Paul through my suspicions about what is driving the UK housing market.

I was always suspicious that house prices could double in a few years when the actual intrinsic value of property remains the same. So it struck me as odd....and indeed very very annoying ......that I paid twice as much for my house in 2001 as I would have done if I had bought it in 1995.

The first stop in my crusade to discover why this happens was the UK based website www.housepricecrash.co.uk. This website has a forum which discusses issues outside houseprice inflation and moves into the realms of economics and money supply.

This in turn led to a UK organisation Prosperity UK who advocate the creation of democratically controlled debt free money. This led to Money Masters and videos on the Federal Reserve.....and that was where I first discovered Ron Paul.

I had no idea at the time, 2 years ago, that RP would end up running for the 2008 elections.

The issue of fiat currency seems to be well understood by a lot of Americans. In the UK, it is not discussed at all. Ask the average punter here where the money comes from and they will have absolutely no idea. This is part of a deliberate conspiracy in the UK to keep the people in the dark. The Bank of England, we are told, has been nationalised since 1946. In fact it is a private corporation just like the Federal Reserve. It pays taxes and its website is www.bankofengland.co.uk. The .co.uk suffix means it is a private company, not a state owned entity. Our currency, called Pounds Sterling implies that it is silver backed, ie Sterling silver. Most people here still think our currency is backed by Sterling silver as the name suggests. People would be pretty surprised if they knew that our money, like the FRNs, is just paper.

So! All I can add is, I have an extreme interets in RP and his campaign because I want to see a return to sound money here in the UK too.....and a less intrusive government that will protect our liberty and freedom.

Hey! And don't forget! The Bank of England created this whole bloody mess!

I'm not entirely sure when I first heard about him, but when I started getting interested in libertarianism about a year ago I probably looked him up on Wikipedia or something to see if there was a libertarian in high office. At this time, I was a neolibertarian like Neal Boortz, but by late 2006 I had come around to the noninterventionist point of view and was disgruntled by the lack of any candidate that came close to my views. I remember watching some videos of Ron on Youtube thinking about how great it would be if he ran for president. Then one day in January I was browsing thirdpartywatch.com when I saw a post that there were rumors he was going to run.

I first heard of him during the '88 campaigns, when I became a libertarian. I wasn't old enough to vote at the time and never thought I'd get another chance to vote for him, but here we are!

First heard of him back in febuary some time between him forming the PEC and annoucing. I have tried to stay on top of politics since '03 and so when I heard of the PEC I did some research. Having been a registered libertarian up till '04 when my state disbanded the party, (unafiliated now but will register republican as soon as I can) he appealed to me right off.

The amazing thing is the more I found about him the more I liked, usualy with politicians it is just the oposite.

I have been subscribed to Ron Paul's Freedom Report for years. I always wished he would run (I had NOT heard of him when he ran in '88 tho!) so I was very excited to hear about his candidacy.

I've been a libertarian for years. I had been a part of the LP years back but got fed up with their stategy of making a change for the better. It seemed to me they were never going to get anywhere with they way they were approaching things so I quit. I had always thought it would be better to infiltrate the Republican party if we were ever going to have a chance to unseat those entrenched powers in Washington.... Then I discovered the Republican Liberty Caucus and Dr. No! He IS a libertarian and he was doing exactly what I thought should be done all along...attempting to change things from the inside. Perhaps if he had more support he could do so... Anyway, I've been subscribed to his newsletters for a while now. Imagine my joy when I heard he was running for President!

I don't remember how I first heard about him! All I do remember is it was not too long before he formed the PEC. Maybe a month or two before that. And I was 100% sure I wanted him to run before he formed the PEC.
