Looks like in 2007 Ron announced the exploratory committee on January 11th and then announced the full Presidential Campaign on March 12th.

Here are the relevant articles:

Anyone care to speculate when / where it will be this time around?

I hope he announces on Glenn Beck and tries to appeal to the Tea Party movement from early on.

When he announces his exploratory committe, would he be able to use donations for that in his official campaign?

My guess:

January 7 (exploratory)

April 8 (candidacy) on the Tonight Show.

Why do you say that?

Jan. 7 because it's a Friday and he can go hit some big events over the weekend.

Apr. 8 because it's the Friday before April 15 (also a Friday) and we can set up a huge ass tax day Moneybomb/Tax protest the likes of which has never been seen before. Especially if they don't freeze the income taxes by 2011.

Yes. Donations to the exploratory committee, I'm told, also count as the $2400 max to the campaign.

If we donate in junk silver, say, can we count it at face value? Kokesh had a "real money bomb" during his campaign. I think some things counted face value and some had to be valued by current market prices for silver...not sure I remember how it worked.

Interesting point. The only advantage would be for people who want to donate more than $2400, which I think would end up being a fairly small total amount of extra money raised. But I do think junk silver could be counted at face value.

One thing about it is that it would have to be a planned and publicized thing, so that donors know about the option being available to them, and campaign staffers know what to do with the junk silver when it comes in the mail. So if this scheme did garner a significant amount of money, it would draw the attention of rival campaigns and the FEC, which might result in unwanted hassles, even if it's legit.

Not before November 2nd. First Rand has to be elected into the Senate.

Then maybe we will remember the 5th of November :D as the date dr. Paul announces he is running.

Which is right on time to hype the buzz for the moneybomb on December 16th. And then he will get that $10 million.

:)

'Gifts' To American Political Figures

Let's say I trust an American politician, even though I'm a foreigner. Could I just write them a check or make a wire transfer to their bank? Before they declared their candidacy?

You mean as a personal gift? Or as something with an expectation that they use it for campaigning?

If it's just a personal gift, then yeah, I'm pretty sure you can do that.

If it's for campaigning, then it's definitely illegal, and it would end up hurting them more than helping.

What if he announced on the Daily Show? That'd be pretty cool, and alll media types watch that show
