I have skills and materials to offer, but have no real connections.
Thankfully, between my husband and I, we've got most of the basic thing covered (farming, raising livestock and poultry and hunting game). He's also a trained electricial and a decent mechanic and well, me, I'm Cherokee on my mother's side and not squemish about very much (if you catch my drift) plus, I've hunted deer and such for years and am a VERY good shot (espcially over distances). What I'm getting at here is that, while my immediate family may be capable of feeding ourselves, it's hard to protect what you have unless you have sufficient numbers to more or less do guard rotations and take turns doing the harder tasks of keeping everyone fed, clothed and housed. If you get too tired, you're more likely to have whatever you've worked for taken away by a superior force. The old addage about safety in numbers (if they aren't TOO concentrated) will hold more true than many folks realize.
