When complex systems fall apart because there is no one qualified to operate them

TBH, I haven't bought the tickets yet and I may still drive out. I mean, it's only a 30 hour drive... :blank:;)

I would drive. And that was even long before the current state of affairs. I’ve never been off the ground in an aircraft, and would definitely like to try it some day, but I refuse to submit to the security theater bullshit they put you through to fly commercial.

Thank you very much for letting me know that I'm a pu$$y...

Well, there still might be something else you can do to help ...

THREAD: Suicide Mission: What Boeing did to all the guys who remember how to build a plane

[...]

But Swampy was mired in an institution that was in a perpetual state of unlearning all the lessons it had absorbed over a 90-year ascent to the pinnacle of global manufacturing. Like most neoliberal institutions, Boeing had come under the spell of a seductive new theory of “knowledge” that essentially reduced the whole concept to a combination of intellectual property, trade secrets, and data, discarding “thought” and “understanding” and “complex reasoning” possessed by a skilled and experienced workforce as essentially not worth the increased health care costs. CEO Jim McNerney, who joined Boeing in 2005, had last helmed 3M, where management as he saw it had “overvalued experience and undervalued leadership” before he purged the veterans into early retirement.

Aren't those right next to the wire stretchers for electricians?

Oh yeah, usually.

When I started out as a ditch laborer, the plumbers got me on that one. It didn't sound quite right to me, but I went and rooted around in the gang box for about 5 minutes. Then i just came back to the ditch and said, "f**k you guys", then we had a good laugh and then I was in. LOL

Back in the 1980s I was helping my dad remodel a small apartment building he and mom had bought. One of my sons was helping out one day too. We were stringing electrical wire to and from new panel boxes we’d installed. I, of course was much to old and way too experienced in dad’s warped sense of humor to fall for it, so my dad sent my son out to the truck for avwire stretcher. Wackiness ensued.

There's always time for shenanigans on the job site! :) How long did it take him to get back?
