What should we name the PAC?

"The true barriers of liberty ... are our State governments." -Thomas Jefferson

Barriers of Liberty PAC

"That the several states who formed that instrument, being sovereign and independent, have the unquestionable right to judge of its infraction; and that a nullification, by those sovereignties, of all unauthorized acts done under colour of that instrument, is the rightful remedy." -Kentucky Resolutions of 1799

Rightful Remedy PAC

Tom Woods would love it! :D

I'm still stuck on Fanny PAC

Rightful Remedy PAC is pretty cool too!

Irate Minority PAC (Based on the following Samuel Adams quote: "It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds.")

While it's probably not best to include "Irate" in the PAC, I do like that it spells IMPAC.

Easy to say, sounds like "impact."

Locke PAC? Or does that sound too much like Lockpick?

Or does it even have to have "PAC" in the name?

Tea Party PAC

malkusm,

If you want this group to be successful, we need to remember the constituency we want to resonate with. We want to ride the Tea Party waves as long as possible. In the minds of the people, the connection between our group and the Tea Party needs to be one that easily made. I would suggest the name be something very Tea Party-esk as others have suggested.

How about "Tea Party State Leaders Fund", modeled after Jim Demint's successful "Senate Conservatives Fund". You could actually model the entire campaign after that campaign. The more I think about it, the more I like that idea. This could be big.

Yeah, I think that's a big key. I want it to be more than an echo chamber, to have the maximum fundraising potential possible. This also involves having the ability for our volunteers in various states to get out and have a presence in events, to cross over into "traditional" fund raising channels, rather than spamming the internet.

At the same time, we want the people here and in other libertarian online communities to know what our priorities lie. I don't envision us endorsing run-of-the-mill GOP candidates who happen to align themselves with the local "Tea Party." So, ultimately I think the point that you make is completely oriented towards how we market this, without appearing to sell out or compromise to the online communities which we will initially rely on.

I agree with you 100%. I think there is a way to accomplish both.

Names aren't important to people like you and I. When you scout candidates, you probably look for the same things that I do: historic voting records, public statements and keywords in the issues sections of candidates. Phrases like "property rights", "non-interventionist" and "individual" are language that we understand. We understand the difference between a platform of "freedom" and a platform of "maximization of individual liberty and the minimization of government".

However, the typical Tea Party voter does not look for these queues. Unfortunately, the typical Tea Party voter connects with patriotic sounding names and a platform that is not challenging first and foremost.

You are correct in saying that my comment is about marketing. I am coming to understand that marketing means a lot in this game. I am seeing frequently that this is how groups are stepping in front of the crowd to market their candidates and attract funds. I believe we can attract much larger amounts of funds if we market this to the larger base. Keep in mind that I don't suggest this be the only approach. I am suggesting we use a name that and a platform that resonates with the Tea Party person and yet means something to the principled libertarian activist.

Hmm.

Funk it. Let's name it Sam Adams PAC. If we get sued, we get more attention, more donations. General liability insurance is cheap.

Why don't we just send a nice letter to their legal compliance guy and see what comes back to us? :D
