What Ron Paul needs to do in Florida

I think Ron Paul needs to appeal to the three primary groups in Florida that may otherwise vote for Julie Ann or Mccane:

The Old-

He needs to target the 55+ demographic by mentioning how

-By cutting spending, he will be able to fully fund their social security.
-He is a veteran and served in Pakistan, which is far more relevant than I dunno... Vietnam?
-He is a doctor and delivers kids as an OB/GYN.

The Property Owners-

-Mention how the market is crashing due to government sponsored inflation
-Talk about how getting rid of the IRS completely will help them out
-Talk about how the gold standard will help keep their property values strong

The Hispanics-

-Talk about how amnesty will hurt their ability to keep their jobs and hold onto their position in society
-Talk about ending the war, so less hispanic children are drafted/inducted by other means
-Talk about getting rid of taxes and replacing it with absolutely nothing. Also get rid of tax on tips.

I think if he can adequately get these points off he may be able to get a LOT more votes. Keep in mind these three groups are very interconnected and information spreads like wildfire.

Ron Paul needs to tell the older voters in FL he was discussing getting rid of their taxes long before he came to FL and long before the news started talking about a recession.

Start trading with Cuba, is that an attractive proposal in Florida?

This would lose his support in Florida quicker then you can blink. Miami is planning on throwing a celebration when Fidel Castro dies. The Cubans in Florida have little love for those currently in control of their home country and have no wish to help them out.

Ron's supporters in Florida need to start canvassing all the old folks' homes (if they haven't yet).

Elections are still done in person - and upwards of 70% of primary voters are going to be 60+. Florida only promises to be more so. Our volunteers need to show viability of Paul, and point out contradictions in whomever they may already support - much like the 'push polling', but in person, after you have identified yourself as a Paul supporter.

Dr. Paul does not sugar coat the truth, and now is the time his speeches should address the biggest problems facing Florida, California, and the rest of the economy.

The next speech should include something like this.

The Florida real estate market is a disaster and the economy is going to get worse. Household wealth destruction due to falling property values has wiped out billions of dollars of peoples equity. Tens of thousands of construction jobs have been lost. Commercial construction is now showing signs of stress and additional jobs will be lost. Tens of thousands of foreclosures are happening an an accelerated rate and families are loosing their homes. Credit card delinquencies and auto repossessions are way up. Sales tax and other revenues are way down. Florida will have a revenue shortfall in fiscal '08 of 2.5 billion dollars or more. Layoffs of state and local workers are on the way. Social programs will be cut and additional layoffs will ensue as the economy gets weaker. This is not just occurring in Florida, but in many states in this country, and it's not going to get any better unless you figure out why it happens and do something about it.

I do not paint a rosy picture of the near term future for the economy because doing that won't make the problems go away. I have written many books on the economy, and have studied the subject for over 30 years. The root cause of all the inflation and the booms and busts in our economy can be traced back to 1 non government agency, The Federal Reserve. The boom times that they create are a lot of fun but the hangover that follows should have us saying, never do that again. The suffering that follows is quite devastating to individuals and families, and the pain that it inflicts makes the boom times, not worth it.

We need to understand that in a sound momentary system, the business cycle would be smoothed out and we would not have to go through events like the dot-com bust and the mother of all real estate busts we are experiencing today.

Something like this will get people fired up and interested in taking a look at his monetary policy which will go a long way to create a lasting solution to our current crisis. Dr. Paul could talk about the bill he introduced to abolish the Federal Reserve even before the housing bubble got started.

He voted against stealing money from Social Security or

He never supported stealing money from Social Security.

Please read the entire post -- it is not negative or pessimistic.

Paul is going to be completely cut out of the MSM narrative in Florida. Doesn't matter what issues he talks about.

Based on Nevada, grassroots organizing can at best double his poll numbers -- if it's supported with advertising. He's at 5% in Florida polls, so 10% is a likely ceiling to what can be achieved solely with canvassing and GOTV efforts.

We've already seen that flooding the state with slick mailings doesn't impact poll numbers. The only way to boost his poll numbers is with TV advertising.

In Florida, the MSM narrative has Rudy and McCain clashing on national security, tax cuts, and spending. Huck is the MSM annointed candidate for evangelical voters and Mitt will be touting the pandering economic message that worked for him in Michigan. Anyone who is concerned about these issues will gravitate to one of the MSM candidates.

Paul has to find a niche audience (or two) that no one else is reaching and hit it hard with TV ads. The only opportunity I see for this is tying overseas spending to the economic downturn. Instead of spending billions overseas benefiting their economies, keep that money here to benefit ours and stop borrowing money from China. No other candidate can/will fashion a message around these issues.

The higher Paul's poll numbers go, the bigger the support base the grassroots canvassing and GOTV will have to build on.

If we try to take on the four MSM annointed candidates on their turf, our message will get drowned out by the MSM. We have to communicate a different message, geared to different voters, to have any hope of reaching double digits. Otherwise, the "wasted vote" meme will prevent us from doing well.

It's oddly polarizing, even within the Hispanic community. Many feel sympathy for the Cuban people, while others "escaped" from Castro's regime. So some want to do what's best for the Cuban people while others feel animosity toward the Cuban government.

A lot of second and third generation Cubans also oppose it. Some want to see their families or the land of their ancestors, while others just realize it hasn't worked in the four decades it's been around.

Edited for unnecessary negativity. Let it just be said that a lot of the Republicans in South Florida are left-of-center RINOs who operate on emotion instead of logic.
