From personal experience, I'm going to have to go with having a huge screen HDTV!
Seriously though, I don't think there's a single secret. I'm sure it helps to be semi-stupid and oblivious to the world falling apart around you, but in a lot of ways, I think happiness is just a matter of keeping your time priorities where you want them to be, rather than where you feel they're "supposed" to be...and choosing to feel good about that instead of ashamed. For example, a lot of people would probably be happier spending more time with family and friends rather than at work, even if it means sacrificing their standard of living and perceived achievements. Then again, accomplishments do a great deal to improve self-esteem too. Happiness is a pretty personal thing.
