What is Ron Paul going to do about student loans?

so basically,

In a nutt shell, Ron Paul will eliminate all federally funded student loans?

Paul is opposed to Federal funding of student loans because the federal government is going broke.. He sponsored the MAKE college affordable act to lower costs please look at up and states will still be able to adminster loans

What about the kids that are in a family that live on 15000 a year? That's what the aid goes to.

And unfortunately the percentage of kids who get those loans and end up with a degree is practically nil.

If their grades are good they'll get scholarships. If their grades aren't good, they can work part time and go to school. I did that and graduated debt free.

Just like any other program, pouring government money into it drives the costs up, which means we need to pour more government money into it, which drives costs up, which means....get it?

People will rise to the occasion of getting their educations. Look what Georgia does: http://learning.monster.com/learning/resources/article/103863?id=e2b9ae14b5dcd2dc7edbabe3545a8b64

The feds do not need to be involved.

this could be bad

Up to this point I have agreed with one hundred percent of what Ron Paul has said. However, this scares me a little.

I am twenty-four years old and I am a college student who receives financial aid from the government as well as a theater scholarship from my school. The scholarship is not enough. I used to try and work full-time and go to school, but it was taking forever, and as a theater major jobs get in the way of rehearsals and performances of the productions I am required to be in.

I understand the theory that if we eliminate federal financial aid that colleges will have to lower their prices so people can afford it on their own. However, if Ron Paul's plan is to end student loans and hope it all works out, I feel very worried about the outcome. Stuff like that doesn't happen over night. It would take years for the price to get to where it needs to be, not to mention the amount of money colleges would initially lose as first, which would result in people losing their jobs and possibly some schools shutting down.

Obama is eliminating student loans. He is criticizing colleges for accepting students that then flunk out and have huge loan debts to pay off. He says colleges should not accept many of the students. On public schools he said in his State of the Union Address, bad teachers should be gotten rid of. I think he is turning into a Republican to try to get elected.

It won't take years....do you think colleges will have near empty classrooms for years because students can't afford to pay their inflated tuitions without the loans? Colleges will be forced to bring costs down.

As to the schools that shut down, you forgot about the bankruptcy process they can be bought and taken over by someone who can administer them more efficiently....and yes, if you want lower college prices some folks will have to lose their jobs but what is more likely to happen is that they will be forced to accept lower pay.

Also you are asking Ron Paul to violate his oath of office if you expect President Paul to keep the Department of Education running. He has advocated abolishing it for a long time. Ronald Reagan also campaigned on abolishing it. Education is a state rights issue according to the 10th amendment.
