What if God smoked Cannibus?

Oh spirituality? You mean that completely invisible thing that has absolutely nothing to do with science or empiricism?

Can you tell me how to measure spirituality? how much is it? how do you affect it?

oh that's right, you can't, a bunch of people who are bumming off of prestigious universities made some "studies" that said that "getting high" affects something called "spirituality" which is a completely made up notion with no basis in reality

Yeah, epic burn

Thing is, back then, they would not have seen drugs as "drugs, per se.

I am a Christian, so I do not support saying anything bad about Christ, but think that drugs are not "bad"..they are merely a moral choice every person must make.

Now, when you speak of spirituality, the argument could be made for those who do not believe in religion, or Christ, that perhaps Jesus did partake in hallucinogens, or other mind altering drugs of his day...he did, ya know, claim to be the son of an invisible being that created the universe, which could have been a hallucination. He did stay extremely calm in horrible situations- think pot. And, the guys in his "clique" did say he walked on water, could perform magic, and could heal them....that does sound like a bunch of kooks if they lived today, do they not?

I think it is really stupid to assume we know everything that Christ did. The bible did not tell the entire story of his life...They did not say when he ate and what, and what he did on a daily basis- remember that when you assume you know exactly what he was. We will never understand him, or his reasoning. We learn that much as children.

I think this thread is extremely interesting.

Jesus used Marijuana

As doubtful as the following hypothesis might first seem to the reader, I might as well boldly state my case right from the start: either Jesus used marijuana or he was not the Christ. The very word "Christ", by the implication of its linguistic origins and true meaning, gives us the most profound evidence that Jesus did in fact use the same herb as his ancient semitic ancestors, and which is still used by people around the world for its enlightening and healing properties.

The Greek title "Christ" is the translation of the Hebrew word Messiah, which in English becomes "The Anointed" D. The Messiah was recognized as such by his being anointed with the holy anointing oil, the use of which was restricted to the instillation of Hebrew priests and kings (See CC#5). If Jesus was not initiated in this fashion then he was not the Christ, and had no official claim to the title.

The ancient recipe for this anointing oil, recorded in the Old Testament book of Exodus (30: 22-23) included over nine pounds of flowering cannabis tops, Hebrew "kaneh-bosm" B, extracted into a hind (about 6.5 litres) of olive oil, along with a variety of other herbs and spices. The ancient chosen ones were literally drenched in this potent cannabis holy oil.

Wow..Huh?

If you don't see the obvious connection between psychoactive substances and all forms of religion, you're sorely naive.

And the thought that human beings could come up with this shit without being smacked out of their gourds is just too much for me to handle.

I don't see why so many in the same boat as me, Christians, get so uptight about this stuff..It's very interesting, and no one is saying Christ was a pot head... he wasn't some dude selling it on a street corner...times were different...it was spiritual, medicinal, and ONLY seen as such then.

I completely agree! I'm a Christian too, and I'm convinced that God put marijuana here to help mankind, medicinally, spiritually, creatively, and psychologically. Sadly, some people abuse it, as can happen with any mind-altering substance, and responsible people who respect it and practice moderation and caution end up suffering for it in the court of public opinion.

How do you know he doesn't? He created it, so chances are he tries it, right? If I bake a batch of cookies, you can bet I'm gonna eat some of my creation!

This image from a 16th century church in Rome should speak for itself:

And how about this painting from 1700's England:

Notice: Parody only. These are not really images from Rome or England....please no angry posts claiming I "made that up" because OF COURSE I MADE IT UP!

Me too. I a firm believer that if he created grapes for wine, something used throughout history, then he also created and has provided hemp for the betterment of mankind. Its a shame it's true value is ignored and not yet realized by TPTB. It's good for more than smoking. Have a look:

So are uranium and plutonium and x-ray and gamma ray radiation and measles and smallpox and rubella and mumps and HIV and AIDS and the black plague and ringworm and mercury and lightning and hurricanes and tornadoes.

Just because it's natural doesn't mean its good for you.

You should re-read genesis.

If you believe that God created the world and everything in it, then it follows that God created recreational drugs... so what's the problem? :D

God didn't create amphetamines, that's some extreme oversight.

"Lucifer. Lucifer! Get over here!" "Yes your royalness?" "Did YOU do this?" "Do what Lord?" "Create this drug!" "Well I might have done that..." "Alright that's it for you, no more timeouts, you are forever banished to hell!"

Funny post :) Reminded of a man called L. Ron Hubbard actually, supposedly he sailed around with enough drugs on his boat to stimulate a Latin American country for a year...

I seriously doubt that someone who has never partaken in hallucinogenic drugs has the credibility to talk about the relationship of hallucinogenic drugs to spirituality..

Yup. I think maybe fasting can give an ever so slight hallucinogenic effect. Probably why it's incorporated into a ritual in many religions.
