What can WE do about the newsletter racism allegation. It's obvious, an MLK moneybomb

Look, the racist newsletter controversy in all likelihood will not hurt us that bad in Iowa (and probably New Hampshire as well), but it has a significant chance of derailing our momentum in South Carolina and Florida where we are not nearly as strong.

We need something where we can proactively fight the attacks. Being on the defensive is never a good strategy when trying to gain support.

I'm sure many of you agree that MLK Jr. was the most prominent freedom fighter of the 20th century in America and his skin color just happened to be black and happens to have a National Holiday celebrated after him on January 16th. It's the perfect opportunity to energize the base after two strong showings, load the campaign with cash to fight for SC and Florida down to the end, and fight the media smears.

Who's in?

I think the campaign should decide when the money bombs are. Plus, we did an MLK money bomb four years ago, yet there are still racist allegations going on.

Yes, we did. But, we were deflated after what happened in Iowa and New Hampshire last time around. That's likely not to be the case. We HAVE to do something if the media continues to pile on to this story.

We did MLK in 2008. Frederick Douglass would be more effective. People posture to MLK and Roas Parks. People don't posture to Douglass, and everybody in the potential target audience knows who Douglass is.

If Frederick Douglass was born in January that would work very well. Another Black-American that would really align with us is Booker T. Washington, but he was born in April.

i like the idea but i perfer a PT Moneybomb, pitchfork and tar moneybomb. Then we don't have to pick a birthday!

Of course do an MLK moneybomb. We can highlight his commitment to non-violence, and compare it favorably to Ron.

Of course, we should make it an MLK weekend moneybomb. After all, non-violence is too important a concept to be confined to a mere 24-hour period :toady:

I don't think an MLK money bomb would do anything to sway the minds of the people who have bought into this newsletters thing. I think the best thing to do is just let it go away and stop bringing it up and talking about it.

An MLK Money bomb is kind of like trotting out some token black person and saying "see, I really like black people." It's just a lose-lose

I really like the Rosa Parks idea, who is also one of my heroes. She reminds me alot of Paul who basically refused to let bigotry stand in the way of liberty and freedom. So many similarities. The Libertarian movement need more people with the sand of Rosa Parks.

But he wasn't born until February. His birthday isn't even exact according to Wikipedia.

Right, born into slavery we don't know his actual birthday, but he celebrated it on Feb 14th. I'm not saying rely on a Douglass event for campaign funds, but pushing a Douglass event could seriously affect the monolithic nature of minority voting. Don't spend a lot of $$$ on it tho, or rely on it to raise $$$. It will help the General more than the Primary, but it's still a very good idea.

We need an advertisement that exploits clips like this, especially Ron Paul in the end with his interview with Wolf Blitzer. Something along the lines of "a candidate with substance."

We can call it the Civil Disobedience Moneybomb. Maybe make it about more than MLK Jr. Highlight Gandhi and Henry David Thoreau

"I as a Republican candidate am getting the most number of black votes and supporters...What other candidate will stand up and say "I will pardon all blacks, all whites who are convicted of non-violent drug acts." This is where the REAL discrimination is, let me finish this!...If you want to look at discrimination, it's in the judicial system. Fourteen percent of inner-city blacks commit drug crimes, 67 percent of blacks have been put in prison, THAT'S discrimination, that's the judicial code I'm attacking and that's not racism. I am the anti-racist because I am the only candidate, Republican or Democrat, that would protect the minority against these vicious drug laws."

I'd title the ad, "What other candidate will stand up?" The lines of Ron Paul talking are exactly 56 seconds.

The media will look like idiots trying to pain Ron Paul as a racist loon while at the same time calling him a loon for being against racial profiling, racist and arbitrarily enforced drug laws, and opposition to the death penalty. The voter would realize the Real Ron Paul is opposing the racism inherent in the system and disregard crappy old newsletters from the early 90s.

Email and snail mail the shows sponsors and let them know you will no longer use their products unless Ron is given a fair chance to reply to the accusations.

Lots of white guilt in this thread. They are flipping the Obama gambit on its ear and you folks are buying into it. Listen to my man TMOT on this issue. Blacks do not like being pandered to and Ron reaches out to individuals.

Yeah, I don't like the idea. If you are interested in the minority vote, bring up issues that are important to them, but don't stress the minority aspect of it. The most obvious thing would be ending the drug war.
