Which candidates will drop out next? I'm thinking Jim Gilmore and George Pataki will drop out next.

I cannot fathom why graham, jindal, huckabee, pataki, gilmore, etc.. are running.. wtf?? just drop out lol

Let's make the cut-off polling five percent nationally. That would leave Bush, Cruz, Rubio, Carson, and Trump.

Sometimes a candidate is trying to improve their chances to run in the future- they want better name recognition. Sometimes it is to raise their status in their own re-election campaign. Sometimes it is to establish connections to be able to raise more money for those other campaigns. Sometimes it is ego.

Campaigning = big money. These candidates have lots of investment, if they drop out they squander it all. Some of them have no support, and are basically skeleton crews for wealthy donors to dump their money into. Campaign advisors and people in the PACs are making millions. You have to wonder whether any of that trickles back to the candidates themselves somehow.

Trump, Carson, Kasich, Fiorina, Huckabee, Christie, Santorum, Jindal, Pataki, Graham

I think the real players are Bush, Rubio, Cruz and Paul

LoL I take it you have completely missed the latest polling showing another Trump surge? Rand hasnt broken 3% in sometime. The fact you would mention Rand as a real player is laughable and sad. Even after a great debate performance, Rand is not gaining traction. It is sad, but it is reality. I am getting to a point where I just don't know what it will take to actually wake the sheeple in this country. Fact remains, without the polling numbers and the necessary financial backing, Rand is by no means a real player, other than his personal conviction.

If somehow we could get Trump and Rubio out of there, he might become a more viable candidate. Though I am banking they would then start pumping Romney.

At this point in time in 2011, Ron was at 3% too. Santorum was pretty much nonexistent as well.

Eventually? All of them but Rand, sometime before the latter accepts the nomination in Cleveland.

...but in the short term?

Hard to say.

You'd think that some of the <1% folks would drop, but they're not really spending any money (not real campaigns), so they can go on forever if they want.

I could see Christie dropping, since he's a pure establishment stooge kind of guy, and he's drawing a few votes from the new establishment favorite (Rubio).

...he might get a phone call, like Walker (LOL, actually took me a moment to remember his name, was wanting to call him Pawlenty).

Similarly, if Rubio does well enough, I could see Jeb dropping so his PACs can throw money at Rubio.

A real poll hasn't come out yet. I'm talking about a poll being accepted at RCP. Rand could still have done better post-debate rather than pre-debate.

Trump has got a pass from the media. That isn't going to be the case forever. I'm sure all his dirty dealings and bimbos are going to pop up right on script before the IA caucus. This has become predictable.

I don't think Rand is going to win. But I don't think he will drop out either.

Jindal was one I didn't want to see drop out right away. He was pretty tough on his competitors in the last debate. It would have been good to have him up there still to talk about how we don't need just any Republican, we need the right Republican.

Rand Paul will probably drop out next, but I hope he doesn't. He'd make a great VP on a Trump/Paul ticket. Double dose of anti-establishment

Paul says he will stay in for the long haul and won't drop out anytime soon. He said that a number of times.
