Weigel: Why Ron Paul’s anti-gay newsletters don’t bother leftist gays

Dan Savage, the one who coined the modern definition of "Santorum", is interviewed for the article.

There is no comparing Paul and Santorum, said Savage, because Paul is a leave-us-alone libertarian. “Ron is older than my father, far less toxic than Santorum, and, as he isn't beloved of religious conservatives, he isn't out there stoking the hatreds of our social and political enemies,” he explained. “And Ron may not like gay people, and may not want to hang out with us or use our toilets, but he's content to leave us the fuck alone and recognizes that gay citizens are entitled to the same rights as all other citizens. Santorum, on the other hand, believes that his bigotry must be given the force of law. That's an important difference.”

So now I know that santorum is not a double-meaning word after all. The author seems like he's trying to get people worked up about the newsletters but no one really cares.

Isn't that what liberty is all about? The right to your own beliefs minus the ability to dictate to others how to run their own lives?

Just noticed this article, and those are great comments from Savage. I listen to his sex and relationships podcast weekly and really admire him in a lot of ways.

David Weigel is a pathetic dishonest worm....

He is not a "journalist" but rather a prostitute for the establishment

I think this post nails the point, regardless how Ron Paul feels, he doesnt want the law involved. I know he doesnt view it as a sin, based on a youtube video, but whether it makes him uncomfortable is not relevant, he isnt looking to legislate it. I get uncomfortable seeing two 500 pound straight people get it on but wouldnt want to legislate their behavior.
