I am in Iowa City #24 and I cannot believe the results i'm seeing on TV either. We won in my precinct with 24 out of 87 votes. Romney 2nd with 23, McCain 19, Huck 14. Thompson and Giuliani 6 and 2. You should have heard the gasp as they announced the results. I witnessed the count but did not witness the lady calling in the votes. I was so excited as I left the caucus. Then, I came home and turned on the TV...what a bummer.
Anyone saw the vote Call in for Carol County, and how the votes for RON PAUL were swapped?
Anyone recorded that, and can post it on YouTube?
I know that this will be dismissed as just another Paulite out of touch with reality, but this is one Iowan who can not believe tonight's results. In my precinct we had 16%. The two other precincts that reported to me were 8% and 10%! Our county was hardly organized. We got into the game very late. I became a county chairman two weeks ago. We are in a remote corner of the state so Ron Paul never even got close to our town.
I can't believe Thompson getting 14% either. In our precincts he got 5%. Its almost like they got their percentages reversed.
The results were "called" in by a touchtone cellular phone (not on speaker phone). I don't think our precinct secretary would have changed the results but since it was done by an automated system I could not easily verify her numbers. What really bothers me is the potential for tampering by the software that totaled the numbers. The "ballots" are slips of paper that are discarded immediately. The Ron Paul precinct captains did call in their numbers separately (to a human) but not all of the precincts had captains. I will be very interested to see if the percentages are even close to the "official" ones.
Anyway, hand me my tinfoil hat. I guess I am now a certified paranoid.
By the way, do not give up guys. This is not the end! Bring on New Hampshire!
Go Ron Paul!
I'm the county coordinator for Davis, and everyone was very cooperative with us in counting the votes. I witnessed the vote count, recorded the votes with the chair, and witnessed the phone report. I have the numbers for the entire county, and they are exactly right. I double checked all the precinct numbers with the GOP county chair and the press.
The only problem I see is that one of our precincts hasn't reported yet according to this site: http://www.politico.com/iowacaucuses/iowamap-popup.html. I was one of the last to leave, so I'm not sure why it isn't recorded yet. It should be.
I'm keeping my eye on the site to make sure the final vote count is exactly what transpired. I don't know how long it will take for the count to be reported since we're all gone home.
