we should do a full page ad in NY Times advertising Boston Tea Party II

With these elements in place, our only remaibning obstacle will be in telling the ubiquitous naysayers among us to STFU

LOL. Prior to the huge success of 11-5, I probably would have had reservations about this idea.

I am definitely on board and ready to chip-in. This is a fantastic idea.

I do have one question, though, that might silence naysayers: Do you think that the number of additional donations reached by DIRECT IMPRESSION of the ad alone (i.e., discounting any secondary media effects) would be greater than the cost of the ad?

Give a good reason. If the answer is Yes, then that eliminates a major arguing point for naysayers.

The only other problem would be if the LiberTea party flops and doesn't raise over a million bucks or so, which would be hugely embarrassing. I highly doubt that this would happen, though.

UPDATE******

The PAC for this project is in on board......Lord Xar's Americans United for Liberty...

I'm waiting to hear back from meow on a website...I'll get the price and all that will be left then is for someone to design a draft copy for people to see and then set up the chip in...

at the point...we pimp the wesbsite/chip ins out to the meetups...facebooks...forums...daily paul etc

6000 people at 100 a pop average.....ha!...chumpchange for us!..

Just a thought. . . shouldn't this thread be moved to the Grassroots forum?

I like this idea a lot. The nice thing about it is that you not only promote the fundraiser, but you can also promote the candidate to a huge audience with the same ad.

This is a GREAT idea!

Another thing I like about it is that it drills into the heart of Giuliani, Clinton, and possibly Bloomberg country. There is more money in NYC than just about anywhere on the face of the planet. Readership is heavy through the state; if NY should turn into big RP country, can you imagine the effect on the talking heads there? Also, the NYT is practically a national paper, as has been pointed out.

How about running it on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving?

How about doing the same thing in the LA Times?

I think it's more than that. I remember with the "General Betray-us" thing they were talking about the regular price being along the lines of $110k. Groups like MoveOn get lower rates because they regularly advertise (and because they fit with the ideology that the NY Times wants to promote). We won't get those types of fee breaks. $60k might by a half-page ad.

I would need to check FEC laws, but I do not believe that media is allow do discount or otherwise manipulate prices for different political ads. I am pretty sure that they have to charge a specific published rate for every political body/candidate/election no matter what they want to advertise or how often they advertise it.

I do not have a phone here, but the Customer Order Fulfillment Department number is 1-800-NYT-5515

Please make sure to retain the reservation number; all materials and insertions submitted for publication must include a reservation number.

An insertion order must be prepared by the advertiser/agency for each advertisement, and should include the following:

IT'S ALREADY BEEN UP FOR 2 DAYS... 8000 DOLLARS IN DONATIONS.

I posted this in the Grass Roots Forum yesterday... don't know why this thread popped up.
Anyway, I already have 8000 in donations in ONE DAY. I'm also already committed to the NY Times to pay the full cost of the ad the day before. So if this fails to raise the money, I'm still on the hook for over 80k. Consider giving 5-10 bucks if you can.

Goes without saying, but every penny goes into Ron Paul.

The closer to the 16th you can place the ad, the better. That way it will be fresh in peoples minds.

I'm already booked for the 15th of December, page 6 or 7, can't remember.. A fold. Already committed the money to it from the savings. So I'm not messing around. This is happening.

BUT, it's not over there... The day of the Money Bomb, the NY TIMES ad will be discussed on every Sunday morning news show. Which will bring more attention to the Money Bomb on Sunday...

Meanwhile, on Monday when they are discussing the Money Bomb, the First ad, and what it all means.... WALL STREET JOURNAL.

We put a FULL PAGE in the WSJ with the TOTAL we raised as of like 11pm, or whenever press time is... BAM, with a screen shot of Ron's website ticker BUSTING THROUGH THE 12 MILLION!

At the bottom of the page, it says in a plain font... "NO NEW TAXES. NO OLD TAXES EITHER."

The content is negotiable, obviously... the money isn't. I'm already in debt on this one. Please support the idea. 10 bucks, whatever... as long as you give more than the cost of the paypal transfer--you're helping!

I would also suggest: In the event we raise enough money that a sister ad in the LA Times or USA Today (who has given Dr Paul some print) would be a good idea.

I also suggest that all of the local groups hit their local newspapers with the same ad, on the same day. A national blitz. If we can hit 1 major paper in every region The ad itself could be news. If we hit:
New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Detroit, Indianapolis,
Jacksonville, Columbus, Memphis, ect.... maybe in order of population rotating regions

I need the following. I realize we can't get this today:

1. An exact amount for a full page and a half page ad in NY times for the sunday paper prior to decemebr 16th.
2. A volunteer to have a bank account and a PO box people can mail bling to. This person should be able to keep track of how much money is collected on a daily basis.
3. Web site ideas!

Any site edits, images, design, get at me.. I suck at those, but I rule at raising over 8 grand in a day!!!

WOW!

thats great...OK...we'll use your website...but you need to imprive that site.

The New York Times project shoul be prominently featured in Bold headlines.

Someone seeing the site wouldnt even know what its about until he reads it.

Do you have a prototype of the ad?..People are gonna want to see something before they donate.

You also need to set up a chip-in meter from chip-in.com.

15th of December???????

you're doing it just 1 day before?

We want to creat some buzz and some media build up.....The day before doesnt allow time for that. You wont get hardly any secondary media coverage

This should be done 1 week before...please reconsider..

also. it would be better if we did this through a PAC. Donors might be hesitant because they dont know who you are

I suck at web design.. if anyone can help with that, let me know. I'm good at organizing and convincing people to give money. I suck at the front page business.

IN THE MEANTIME, anyone can donate directly to the account I've set up for it [email protected]

to take credit cards, bank accounts, etc... you can direct deposit it there.

If anyone can help with the site design, I've got a ton of bandwidth ready. send me the files to that same email address.

As for the ad I'm planning, go to the grass roots forum and check my post called "coordinated strikes"

ANYONE WHO HAS A BETTER AD, PLEASE STEP FORWARD. I'm not a fascist, and though I'm already stuck with the bill, I'm all about moving the MARKETS ideas ahead of my own.

if we do it through a PAC, there are filing regulations, lawyers, etc...

In politics, a week is a year... we got 3 days of coverage for the MoneyBomb... they don't know who Ron Paul is today... 4 days later. We want to bring his name into the spotlight, so that people will GOOGLE HIS NAME... and there will be our website.

I also appreciate this offer, but would have to agree with Max that this could be very valuable to generate a weeks worth of promo PR. At least several days before. Try to see how to get the most of what your offering.

max raises some good points. this is an awesome idea though guys. we have to do this.

Again... you guys pick the day... I'll change the website when the decision is made...

Either way, the account is there... I can call the NY Times and cancel and tell them I'll be moving the ad up...

Decide on the ad, help with the website, donate the money to [email protected]

I have a seperate account set up specifically for this purpose.

Credit card/bank transfer/wiring money: [email protected]
Check/Money Order: address above... make sure you put "RON PAUL" in the memo on the check/mo.
