WaPo: Expect Romney to give Rand and Ron speaking slots at RNC

The nomination is what truly matters, everything else is appeasement.

#WinstonChurchill:

An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile—hoping it will eat him last.

Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.

I'd like to hear Ron speak at one or more of the remaining state conventions, but his event calendar shows nothing. A real shame. He could 'unify' the Party some more.

Are you kidding me?! MSM "prime time speaking slot"? Is that supposed to be acceptable to all the supporters who have been fighting and clawing around in the scum of the GOP for a win? Are we all supposed to be satisfied with a "SPEAKING SLOT" at the convention?! Hell no we are not. WE are in it to win it. WE see the future for this country if either Romney or Obama are at the helm for another four years and we are sick. I certainly hope that this is all a ruse and that there is a MAJOR surprise coming for the GOP in Tampa. As for all you people who are posting all this conciliatory crap about having an impact on the "party", it all just sounds like cowardly BS to me.

Carol Paul said he's going to be at the Iowa convention on the 16th.

Absolutely we are in it to win it if a win is still possible and to TAKE THE MACHINERY of the party as much as we can as well. If a win is NOT possible, we still want the machinery.

I am new to all this party business, because I have always been an independent. Ron Paul is the only politician that I have had any desire to help. So tell me... Are there further nominations if the Pick has already secured the necessary number of bound delegates. Do they even take a vote? Or is all this nothing other than a grand coronation?

Since 1976 it has been a coronation. But there has to BE a vote even for first ballot and if you have a plurality of delegates in 5 states, you can be nominated from the floor and have a speech as a candidate of the convention, BEFORE that first ballot is voted on.

VP is also voted on, fwiw. Generally since 1976 those with enough states to be nominated have endorsed the nominee and released their delegates. So no issues have been raised nor resolved about the direction of the party or to challenge the establishment insiders.

He could certainly SHED LIGHT.

HE could be the one calming people down, instead of SOME PEERS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHER PEERS "laying down the law": STOP THAT RACKET, BECAUSE WE SAID SO.

He HAS to know what Rand's endorsement will have done to/meant to some of his most ardent Supporters, some who go WAY back and some who NEVER supported any politician in their whole lives.

I don't hold with this HE OWES US NOTHING MORE jazz. Solicit millions dollars for a stated purpose, no strings attached and no accountability?!?! Not unless you are from the Government, and here to help.

the last and final fear of the GOP establishment is a late in the game third party run
that gets between 15% and 20% of the vote as the market is tanking badly this fall.

Rand Paul gets to give a speech? Who cares?

I sure as heck am not interested in wasting my time listen to a man who speaks with a forked tongue.

This is only relevant if my count stays below 1144. I award stealth delegates to Paul, so Romneys total is true supporters (unless we have a lot of deep cover people.

Yeah, except a lot more people might want to challenge that than Romney. And it is CERTAIN no one is bound for that.

If Ron gives a speech somewhere, don't look for him to directly address this. And really, for him to directly address this in a speech would only draw attention to something that is clearly a negative to the campaign. He will stick to his own agenda with maybe a mention of any recent good delegate news. I would be satisfied with another barnburner like he gave at the Texas Convention. Remember that he is still jockeying to strengthen his position in Tampa and that should be his focus and ours.

Prime time MSM coverage of an entire Ron Paul speech doesn't interest you?

I seriously expect the media to cut away from any major speech Ron Paul gives in order to "discuss the previous speakers" until Ron finishes.

Romneys solid delegates are going to vote for whoever he nominates. If he has 1144 solid delegates, he can get any VP he wants.

OR,

He could meet an issue head-on, "like a Boss". HE could do the reassuring, rather than Supporters with MODERATION SLANT ADVANTAGE on a namesake message board of which some Apologists now claim he is probably UNAWARE.

Ron Paul COULD rally his Troops, if he wanted to. GET DELEGATES + BE RESPECTFUL IN TAMPA = MIXED MESSAGING.

NO ONE IN RON PAUL'S CAMP, Ron Paul least of all, could be "unaware" of dirty tricks, provocateurs, et al.

It needn't be some big speech at some big rally...an email WRITTEN BY HIM would suffice. In my view, if he is UNAWARE of the rift the endorsement INCITED, nuthin' fer nuthin', he'd be "out of touch" as a President. I'll stipulate that he does not want or encourage unthinking devotion, but he can't NOT KNOW that certain of his LIVELIEST Supporters take marching orders directly from him, period, no matter what.

I put NO stock in the fear of airing dirty laundry. Sweeping shit under the rug NEVER pans out over time.

RECOVERY CIRCUIT WISDOM: You can't save your ass and your face at the same time.

I'm not sure those fine to vote for Romney might not want to influence the VP.

but I don't have any big plans around the idea, either.

The party brass may be willing to annoint Romney. But that does NOT mean they trust him. It is quite possible that Romney floats some balloons in private over who he wants for VP, and those get slapped down. I am almost comfortable in saying the VP choice is not his to make, like was the case for stronger nominees in prior elections.
