WaPo: Expect Romney to give Rand and Ron speaking slots at RNC

I don't know if it will happen, but I would not be surprised.

Romney (unlike McCain in 2008) has a pretty good personal relationship with Ron Paul. I'm sure he'll also want to try to get as many Ron Paul supporters on board as possible.

Helping get Romney elected means we'll have an incumbent republican to try to defeat in 2016, which makes things even harder.

It also kind of promotes bad policy in the next 4 years.

Now Romney is giving things at the RNC. I see. How nice of him to give of all that he has in abundance. Our political system is not yet up to North Korean standards but give it some time. Don't despair we'll get there. We will know whom to cheer, whom to applaud, how to applaud, for how long, and we'll also learn to bow.

I really dislike the use of give as well. The only reason to phrase it as "give" is because it is a deviation from how shitty the GOP has been treating Paul. He's earned a speaking slot and so much more, no one in the GOP has spurred so much enthusiasm. If they want to pat themselves on the back and think of this as a concession they sure can, but I'm not touched, and it wont sway my vote, at all.

Unless deep down they're convinced no matter what they say Obama will win...

In which case they are setting themselves up PERFECTLY for 2016.

Id say the possibility of Rand speaking has increased significantly. He gave a very good speech at CPAC this year.

Prime time MSM coverage of an entire Ron Paul speech doesn't interest you?

Ron Paul SHOULD be able to get a speech without any deals, by being nominated from the floor. Given the amount of rule breaking that has gone on, nothing is certain, but that is what I would like, an UNEDITED Ron Paul speech. Rand isn't on my horizon this year, at least.

did the WaPo article hint at a source or is this an armchair speculation of theirs?

anything short of Ron being able to be nominated on the floor for a chance at the presidency is unacceptable..

if Romney is the presumptive nominee.. what does the GOP have to fear by putting on a show and allowing Ron to be nominated onto the floor? if romney allows ron to be nominated so its 1v1 at RNC, and in the event romney still won... i won't vote for obama.

He won't give Ron a speaking slot unless Ron actually endorses Romney, which isn't going to happen.

Or could it be a ploy to bring more NOBP's to be able to do that "play party politics without compromising principles" thing? I note there is some talk of PRICE now. There is almost ALWAYS a price. "Money can't buy me love?" Tell that to the spouses of Robber Barons. True, loveless marriages abound. Thank God money at least buys LOYALTY...at least til a better offer comes along.

If it is TRUE OPINION SHAPING as opposed to FALSE OPINION SHAPING, I give y'all Fair Warning right here and now. That is ALSO a ploy. Ron Paul does NOT enjoy popular support outside his amazing-but-small hardcore base. He also has a voice like fingernails on a chalkboard to many of the many who are not smart enough to revere him.

RON + RAND = DOUBLE TROUBLE.

I appreciate that Rand Loyalists can well imagine that Rand's speech (on top of Ron's speech) will do for Rand what Obama's '04 speech did for Obama. I'm saying, I CAN SEE WHY some might believe that. I have many and steadfast Detractors, LIKE RON PAUL DOES, so take my advice with salt all the way around the rim. I spy ROPE A DOPE + ENUF ROPE TO HANG YOURSELVES.

"My two cents." Am I entitled to that around this joint? Or only if I don't ruffle feathers or undermine strategeries?

Ron Paul will speak during a commercial break, or there will be unforeseen technical difficulties. A speech is a poor substitute for a presidency. Doesn't make me happy at all.

He won't give Ron a speaking slot unless Ron actually endorses Romney, which isn't going to happen.

If Ron has five states, Romney won't have any say over Ron getting a NOMINATION speech. He'd be nominated from the floor.

Since this has not happened since 1976, I doubt all media would break away at that point.

Speaking slots are like primary beauty contests that don't really matter.

Having Ron Paul nominated at the convention would be akin to the selection of delegates during the primary.

The nomination is what truly matters, everything else is appeasement.

Ron has said bfore that he has no desire to give an edited speech. I think the RNC has no desire for Ron Paul to give a non-edited speech.

So really... not going to happen. Rand will do it... he'll do anything!

I am new to all this party business, because I have always been an independent. Ron Paul is the only politician that I have had any desire to help. So tell me... Are there further nominations if the Pick has already secured the necessary number of bound delegates. Do they even take a vote? Or is all this nothing other than a grand coronation?
