I don't see why. I mean, I would abolish the the IRS in a heartbeat, but I don't see how waitresses being forced to pay the same tax rates that we are is some horrible unfairness.
add that tax loss to the fact a lot of servers have to tip out a percentage of sells to bar, busser, and host- and when a server gets stiffed, they ending up paying a lot of money to wait on that table. theft of service charges should be common.
Yep, it sucks that many people don't realize that they are taking money out of our pockets when they do things like that. Like you said, besides the taxes, the server still does not get the full amount of the tip as it has to be spread around to many others. Though I don't agree with theft of service charges, I still think it is a scummy thing to do as this kind of information is becoming common knowledge.
I don't understand how they want to help out the future generations, yet they do this to jobs that have helped so many folks get through college over the years (such as myself and most of my co-workers).
I still don't get the dismay over this. Even reading the articles on it, the servers admit that it will likely help them avoid having a big tax bill at the end of the year, and that they'll probably just have to get used to getting paid on Friday instead of taking home a big wad of cash every night.
But they will actually be getting the best of both worlds. The only tips affected are mandatory gratuities - anything that is left in cash or simply added to the ticket by the customer will still go home in their pockets at the end of their shift. (For now, at least...)
