Voters misunderstand Ron Paul's foreign policy

The average voter does not understand Ron Paul's foreign policy. They truely believe he plans to dismantle our military and destroy our national defense. They have been brainwashed by the establishment GOP and the MSM into believing a huge lie. That fact was brought to light yesterday when my brother and his wife paid me a visit. My brother asked me who I was going to vote for and when I replied Ron Paul, he and my sister-in-law both said that they like Ron Paul but they do not like his foreign policy because he would destroy our military and leave our country defenseless. I have read similar statements from others. I explained to them that when Ron said he would bring the troops home and stop these senseless wars, that only meant he would station the troops here in the US and close the bases overseas -- that does not mean he would discharge them from the military and dismantle the military. Ron Paul and the Campaign must correct their understanding of his foreign policy if he wants to win the election.

They've been fear propagandized. It's usually hard to get them to see the light, until they make the logical connections for themselves.

I fight with everyday on facebook forums in the Cincy Tea Party. I think we are winning though.

but the campaign still do not have ads to correct this. the bulk of the voters watch TV. something as important as this is not corrected.

Unfortunately Ron doesn't get specific very often about what he would like to see spent on National defense. He's only specific on what he won't support (foreign occupation, undelcared wars, etc.).

He clearly is not going to cut defense spending; just look at his budget plan. He goes back to 2006 levels and it is one of the few items where spending goes up each year thereafter. But I've given up expecting him to explain it, so it's going to be up to us to describe what defense spending is and how absurd it is to think we're at risk of being invaded or bombed by another country.

I tell people that we would still have a powerful Navy. A single Ohio class submarine packs more firepower than what was dropped on Japan...and we have 18 of them. Paul has said a number of times that submarines are an effective weapon (just not in debates.....). If truly necessary (war was declared), we can deploy troops anywhere in the world in 14 hours. We have weapons systems that can strike anywhere on Earth in less than an hour. To top it all off, we have millions of militia (ie abled bodied men) empowered to repel invasions.

I'm not a military buff, so I don't know too much about military technology, but I'm sure a list like this can go on and on.

Paul is a fairly vague guy. Not intentionally of course. He expects people to research topics that are important to them. The campaign is doing little to fill in the gaps. Another thing to understand is that some people do understand his policy. They just don't like it.

Well, I believe that Ron Paul should be tougher on North Korea because it is a REAL threat to our national security and it will reassure Republican voters on being strong on defense.

It's because the average Republican voter watches Fox News. I had the same problem back in 2008. I didn't understand it either. It's a totally different paradigm because we have been conditioned since birth to praise every U.S. war and effort to promote freedom and peace everywhere. It's the biggest farce that is hard to accept.

How is North Korea a threat to us?

Too bad people can't take a test before the ballot to make sure they even know what they are talking about.

ICBM range to Alaska? If they don't have it, they're really close.

Mexico and Canada have missiles that could hit us, so what? North Korea has no intention of firing anything at us. Geeze, it's like one boogey-man after another. How can people live with such unfounded paranoia? Do you eye all your neighbors and fear that they may beat down your door or run you off the road? The only thing you have to fear is the tyrants in your State Capitals, on the Potomac, and the SWAT teams stationed around your residence.

Anyone who claims RP would endanger national security due to his foreign policy is ignorant of the reality of blowback, to mention nothing of economics and logic.

Foreign intervention causes blowback.
We can't afford to maintain our empire, thus our military and national defense suffer as a result, making us weaker.
If we bring our military assets state-side, it stands to reason we will have more secure borders and a stronger defense here at home.

This is to mention nothing of the argument from morality about a generation+ removed committing future generations to the debt and war that will result from an interventionist foreign policy and entangling alliances therein.

There is literally no reason for anyone who considers national defense important not to agree with RP's foreign policy.

North Korea couldn't even take South Korea, let alone attack us.

Fear is the mind killer.

North Korea is ruled by a stupid 20 something year old! They have no rational thinking if they are testing ballistic missiles in the ocean that could reach Hawaii! We cannot trust them, I suggest firing all conventional ballistic missiles necessary to take out the nuclear facilities!

Voters don't misunderstand his foreign policy, they reject it.

Perhaps someday they'll understand, when the currency crashes.
