WikiLeaks: Snowden going to Ecuador to seek asylum
By Associated Press | Associated Press – 36 mins ago

In a sense that is a shame. I know Russia suggested they would offer him asylum (I have to catch up, I've been out of pocket a couple of days) but people here will be able to spin it more. I saw the google headline last night was 'espionage' not 'whistleblowing' and I don't think we remotely have the evidence to jump to that conclusion.

In any event, this just came off twitter by an account called 'The Fear Dept' which has a DHS like seal as an avatar (see others below):

Saturday we commanded Hong Kong to arrest #Snowden immediately. Today we received this rude response. pic.twitter.com/OorjztzZaY

The good news? Ecuador is on the equator. Snowden will melt.

MT @mattyglesias Aggressive anti-leak measures —> leakers seek refuge in unfreindly states —> more anti-leak measures. Rinse & repeat.

I follow Fear Department, you can, here: https://twitter.com/FearDept

Yeah, and Obama asked them not to admit him, I put this on another thread. I don't know if I should merge them and retitle the other thread 'goes to Moscow, Equador....'

You know that Assange had something to do with this. He is still a refugee at the Ecuadorian embassy in London. I wonder how this all went down?

When we needed to violate the 4th Amendment, we called Booz Allen. Now that we're targeting the 1st Amendment, we call NBC's @DavidGregory.

There might be things NBC's David Gregory wouldn't do for us, but we don't know what those would be. #loyalty

We have a strong partner in NBC, a loyal friend in David Gregory. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/3486654?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000003 … @ggreenwald

One of my nieces lived in Ecuador for several years and married an Ecuadorian fellow. Although they now live in the states, she does like it down there.

I'd be buying property in the Galapagos Islands if I were Edward. Then I'd be doing this every chance I could get....

Hollywood, I believe Rand is in your neck of the woods in a few weeks. I hope you can shake his hand and thank him for what he's doing especially being the only member of Congress talking about the CIA annex at Benghazi.

Ecuador says Snowden seeking asylum there
By MIKE IVES | Associated Press – 2 hrs 19 mins ago

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — Ecuador's foreign minister said Monday his country will act not on its interests but on its principles as it considers an asylum request from National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden, wanted for revealing classified U.S. secrets.

Speaking to reporters through a translator at a hotel in Hanoi, Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said the asylum request "has to do with freedom of expression and with the security of citizens around the world."
