How many times has shit like this happend when there WEREN'T any video cameras around

True. And it makes you wonder how callous and crass our nation has become when soldiers think know they can do this stuff on camera and have a good chance of getting away with it.

What a bunch of lowlife scum. Yet I constantly hear how I'm supposed to be grateful to them. "OMG there defending are freedumbs if u dont stand behind them than u should stand in front of them...." Those psychopaths aren't doing anything for me or for the American people as a whole, and they sure as hell aren't defending my freedom. They're just having a good time playing soldier at the expense of people who can't fight back with equal firepower. Fuck 'em.

shooting people in a cage.. now that's "spreading democracy" in action.

and some still believe the military wouldn't do "crowd control" here.

There is no question this is horrible, at the same time it is a scene we have seen play out in every war ever fought' and will see again in the future. We must put this act and others like it in perspective, this is not a black eye on the US military, this is a black eye on war. These type of acts and worse than these can be found on any battle field any where on the planet, and committed by any country that engages in military conflicts. Thankfully we live in a country where decent people like many on this forum are able to voice there disagreements with these types of acts and through the law get retribution for those who wrongfully lost there lives which in many country's never happen. Until man finds a alternative to war... bite your lip and glare intensely.

It's not? Please explain how these actions are upholding each soldiers oaths? Please explain how it is not breaking that oath? And please explain how soldiers who can not even uphold their own oath is not a black eye on our troops?

Sterlin, you have a point. I'd say it's black eye on the war and its instruments.

Most responsibility lies with the owner/planner/operators of the machine and not just the instruments.

Well the soldiers who chose to fire on unarmed men are human and capable of choosing right and wrong, they did break there oath and dishonored there country and command. The term black eye is a term that describes the shame and the negative persona carried by our military. I am making the point that this shame and negative persona should be carried by all who engage in war, because these type of acts
are found in all wars. And until man finds an alternative to war we must bare these types of atrocity's.

No thanks to anyone in the military (except perhaps those who help maintain our nuclear deterrent against invasion). The last war America fought to defend the freedom of Americans was probably the Revolutionary War.

Look at the number of current and ex-military people who support a law against burning or "desecrating" the US flag, which they worship as an idol. These aren't people who care about free speech. If they were told to silence dissidents or critics of the military, most of them would gleefully try to carry out those orders.

There was a very simple alternative to the Iraq war: leaving Iraq alone. None of these wars America is engaged in are wars of necessity; they're all wars of choice.

If America pulled all of its troops out of every single foreign country today, we could sleep just as soundly in our beds at night. Having thousands or even millions of soldiers occupying other countries overseas does nothing to prevent people from infiltrating this country and carrying out terrorist attacks. If these wars have any effect at all on our national security, it's a negative effect, since these invasions increase hatred of the US and make us a target for revenge.

This is crazy! We are taught not to obey unlawful orders (remember the Nuremberg trials). Still yet, those soldiers should have known what was right and what was wrong.

Ok got it. thanks for clearing it up

The glaring fact this is an unjust "war" based on lies, scams, distortions, and spin makes it all that much worse. Just wait until some of these soldiers some home to work for the DHS, TSA, or become cops. When the SHTF and they're called to "calm dissent" will they get as much pleasure doing this kind of thing to American citizens on US soil? Hmmm.

I agree on one level or another with most of what is being said here, I just can't ignore the hard reality, and that is that man has settled disputes and other conflicts with violence for a very long time now and have not collectively been able to come up with and alternative to war, and no matter what aspect of war we disgust that is sort of the 800 pound gorilla in the room

This is ten days late, but...
When is the last time you personally escalated a disagreement to the level of physical violence? The truth is, the vast majority of people are perfectly capable of resolving our personal conflicts without war or physical violence. The problem is, the vast majority of people are incapable of restraining the ones who are not, and many of the violent and evil ones are incredibly adept at emotionally manipulating the rest of us into supporting them. Some of them are the ones who start unnecessary wars, and others are the ones who mow down defenseless prisoners with glee. This happens again and again for two reasons: First, the public has no real concept of what sociopaths are like and how to sniff them out. Second, societal institutions - especially government - are set up in a way that attracts and empowers these people over anyone else. That is why they dominate fields of law enforcement, law, politics, and the military, as well as executive positions at corporations. The most powerful people in the world are among the worst people alive, and this is no coincidence. Barring some magical awakening of public consciousness - which we'd be naive to hope for - the only real solution is drastically limiting the amount of power that powerful people can wield.
