[Video] Rand Paul on the The Situation Room w/ Wolf Blitzer 7/30/13

I prefer Ron's method of taking the high road and not getting personal.

You attack their bad ideas, not the person spouting them.

-1 for Rand.

You can't destroy ideas ( you can maybe contain them by spending a lot of money ) but you can destroy people very easily.

You assume that his job is to appeal to you and me in the interview. That is incorrect. It was perfectly tailored for the intended audience.

Oh that we could live in a world where logic is employed by the majority of people and ad hominem is not a valuable political tool. But let's be real. I watched that interview and heard 100 Sarah Palin fans say, "I like this Rand Paul guy, he's a fighter".

EDIT: I saw the fighter comment by Goldwater after writing this. Didn't mean to suggest you were a Sarah Palin fan. Apologies.

you please one person and you're bound to displease another.. might as well ignore all subjective perceptions if it is irrelevant to issues

Rand is typically non-confrontational and when he is he ussually does attack policies and actions like with Obama. However he is quick to react when provoked.

Also remember "Because he's a fake." Ron ran a lot of attack ads during 2012

Rand made it clear it's not just about Christie, qualifying with phrases like "and others".

It was also very smart the way he portrayed King and Christie's foreign policy part of the "liberal wing of the Republican Party." Sounds like a great angle to try and associate neo-conservative foreign policy as intrinsically liberal and fiscally irresponsible every time he is attacked on these issues.

New ploy? Let Rand talk about the good things of freedom while showing Christie's picture.Subliminal coupling?

Rand is losing this. Here's why: He's trying to out-statist a statist.

This is how it sounds to me:

"I DID vote to steal money from people around the country to give to people in one small area to rebuild"
"We can't close any MILITARY bases!"

Rand should know better than to play this game. Why not outright come out and say our military is grossly overfunded and we SHOULD be closing bases all over, including Kentucky?

If they are going to argue about spending cuts, and Rand is going to invoke libertarianism like he did in this interview, then he should go all the way and talk about the ridiculousness of taking from some people and giving to others, and the absurdity of having a military this size. Otherwise, Christie will likely win a tit-for-tat battle- simply because this puts Rand on the defensive and trying to appease.

And before I get flamed, I'm not anti-Rand and certainly not pro-Christie, just wanting to see the ideals of liberty move forward here.

You should read what Admiral Mullen stated about the unsustainable nature of our deficits and how this unsettling trend is the greatest threat to American national security. Rand is setting him up for the knockout blow. He's going to bend fat man over the his beloved national secuirty state and twist the knife.

Or you can appear walked on like Ron did at the debates a lot. People expect the CIC to step up when attacked. Christy brought Rand's name into this fight.
