Tucker Carlson announces new show on Twitter
https://rumble.com/v2mxcoe-tucker-carlson-you-are-being-manipulated.html

(bold emphasis added)
Tucker is getting ready to launch a Fox News competitor and is "preparing for war"
https://notthebee.com/article/report-tucker-is-getting-ready-to-launch-a-fox-news-competitor
Daniel Plainview (07 May 2023)

Since Tucker Carlson's abrupt and stunning departure from Fox News, it seems that he has been busy laying the groundwork to launch a rival media outfit of his own.

The scoop comes from Axios and their headline is "Tucker Carlson ready to torch Fox News." Axios cites "sources close to" Tucker to report that he is mobilizing an effort to get himself released from his contract with Fox News so he can launch his own competitor — "a media empire of his own."

Apparently, Tucker's contract with Fox News goes through 2025 — after the presidential election — and he can't work for anyone else before then. So Fox is basically paying him $20M per year to not work.

Rumble and Newsmax have reportedly offered Tucker contracts more lucrative than his Fox gig, and he apparently also met with Elon about a venture. Axios' sources claims Tucker is also "contemplating building a direct-to-consumer media outlet where his millions of fans could pay to watch him."

Tucker "knows where a lot of bodies are buried, and is ready to start drawing a map," one of the sources said.

Another source Axios calls "a close Carlson friend" said:

"Now, we're going from peacetime to DEFCON 1. His team is preparing for war. He wants his freedom."

Stay tuned...

Carlson's lawyers are asserting that the non-compete clause of his contract with Fox News is no longer valid:
Carlson was told by a member of the Fox board that he was taken off the air as part of the Dominion settlement, per Tucker's legal team
The revelation comes as Tucker Carlson has launched a new exclusive show on Twitter.
https://thepostmillennial.com/break...he-dominion-settlement-per-tuckers-legal-team
Hannah Nightingale (09 May 2023)

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Fox News’ settlement with Dominion Voting Systems over claims made in 2020 about the company’s voting machines’ role in the presidential election was the reason why former Fox News host Tucker Carlson was taken off the air.

Two people briefed on the conversation told Axios that Carlson had been told by a Fox board member that he was taken off the air abruptly last month as part of the settlement with Dominion Voting Systems.

The $787 million settlement reached by the two parties came less than a week after it was revealed that Carlson was off the air, with his final show being the Friday after the settlement was announced.

In a letter from Carlson’s lawyers to Fox News, they argue that Carlson’s noncompete clause in his contract, which runs through 2025, is no longer valid, alleging Fox employees, including "Rupert Murdoch himself," broke promises to Carlson "intentionally and with reckless disregard for the truth."

The lawyers accuse Fox executives, which two sources told Axios are Viet Dinh and Murdoch, of making “material representations,” or promises, to Carlson that was intentionally broken, constituting fraud.

"These actions not only breached the covenant of good faith and fair dealing in the Agreement, but give rise to claims for breach of contract, and intentional and negligent misrepresentation," the letter says.

The revelation comes as Tucker Carlson has launched a new exclusive show on Twitter.

Tucker Carlson announces plans to relaunch his show on Twitter
https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/09/media/tucker-carlson-twitter/index.html
Oliver Darcy (09 May 2023)

[bold emphasis added - OB]

New York CNN — Right-wing extremist Tucker Carlson announced Tuesday that he will relaunch his program on Twitter, which he praised as the only remaining large free-speech platform in the world after Fox News fired him late last month.

Carlson made the announcement in a video posted to the social media website, which Elon Musk acquired last year. Twitter has devolved in recent months into a chaotic platform where the traditional press has come under assault from the billionaire.

“Speech is the fundamental pre-requisite for democracy. That’s why it was enshrined in the first of our Constitutional amendments,” Carlson said. “Amazingly, as of tonight, there are not that many platforms left that allow free speech. The last big one remaining … is Twitter, where we are now.”

Carlson demonized the news media in his announcement video, accusing journalists of often excluding facts that detract from their narratives. He did not mention Musk has censored speech on Twitter, including banning several prominent reporters from the website just last year.

Although Carlson did not directly address his abrupt firing from Fox News in the video, he strongly alluded to it.

“The best you can hope for in the news business at this point is the freedom to tell the fullest truth that you can. But there are always limits,” Carlson said. “And you know that if you bump up against those limits often enough, you will be fired for it. That’s not a guess, that’s guaranteed.”

The Wall Street Journal, which is controlled by Fox Corporation Chairman Rupert Murdoch, reported last month that Carlson’s contract with Fox News was worth about $20 million a year. The newspaper reported that Carlson was expected to be paid out in full.

His move to launch a show on Twitter could jeopardize whether he ultimately receives that money. A spokesperson for Fox Corporation could not be immediately reached for comment on the matter.

But Carlson’s decision to relaunch his show on Twitter signals his strong desire to remain present in both the media and politics, where he played an outsized role while occupying the 8 p.m. ET slot on Fox News.

Aside from former President Donald Trump, Carlson was arguably the most powerful voice inside the Republican Party, with lawmakers fearing his wrath and appearing on his program in a symbolic bow to his feet.

Carlson was able to achieve that influence by posting high ratings. But his monster viewership numbers were earned through the trafficking of anti-immigrant rhetoric, false conspiracy theories, and the promotion of white nationalist talking points.

Fox News has struggled, however, to fill the gap Carlson left. The network’s ratings have not only fallen significantly in the all-important 8 p.m. time slot in wake of his departure, but they have weakened throughout prime time. The right-wing channel in recent weeks has posted some of its lowest ratings since the era before the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

For Twitter, the addition of Carlson’s show is unsurprising.

Musk has helped to elevate the visibility of far-right figures on the platform both by engaging with their tweets from his personal account and by allowing them to pay for Twitter Blue accounts, which provides them “verified” blue checks and comes with greater prominence in search. Musk has urged his millions of followers to vote Republican and also appeared on Carlson’s show on Fox shortly before he was let go.

Musk has restored the accounts of many users who had previously been banned for violating the platform’s rules, including right-wing figures like Trump and a number of white supremacists and neo-Nazis.

MSNBC melts down over free speech ‘free for all’ on Twitter
Free speech is officially a right-wing value. Just ask former CNN pundit Brian Stelter and Barack Obama.
https://www.based-politics.com/2023/05/10/msnbc-melts-down-over-free-speech-free-for-all-on-twitter/
Jack Hunter (10 May 2023)

[all emphasis in the original - OB]

On Tuesday night, it took exactly 30 seconds for two establishment news personalities to demonstrate how free speech is now increasingly perceived as “right-wing.” They did so in reaction to Tucker Carlson announcing that he was bringing his popular television program to Twitter.

Watch it. It’s amazing. It’s quick:
[additional matter hidden to save space]

Sitting in on MSNBC’s ‘Hallie Jackson Now ‘, guest host Tom Costello said, “Twitter was already under fire for misinformation, disinformation, all-out lies, anti-semitism, racism before Elon Musk took over and now it’s gotten kind of crazy, right? Seemingly unmoored, if you will.”

Let’s say for argument’s sake that how Costello portrays the current state of speech on Twitter is true. (In fact, it’s highly debatable.) Even if it features the craziest “lies” and the worst kinds of racism—all of this is protected under the First Amendment and a broader societal value of free speech. The ACLU once defended Nazis’ First Amendment rights back when free speech was still a Left value, for heaven’s sake.

Costello then said to his guest, former CNN personality Brian Stelter, “Will anybody be able to police what Carlson says?”

Hey guy—is someone SUPPOSED to “police” what Carlson or anyone else in America says?!? Isn’t the point of free speech in America is that you can say whatever you want (with extremely narrow exceptions) and your right to do so is protected by law?

Costello followed up, apparently dismayed that no one would be able to “police” Carlson’s speech on Twitter, “Or is this the point? It’s just a free-for-all?”

(YES. THAT’S EXACTLY THE POINT.)

Stelter immediately reinforced Costello’s glaring illiberalism.

“This move by Tucker may cement the idea of Twitter as a right-wing website,” Stelter proclaimed.

Translation: If Twitter owner Elon Musk is promising a free speech environment on his platform—in the way that most Americans for most of our history have understood that principle since the Constitution was ratified—allowing unfettered speech is right-wing.

You read that right. That’s where we are now.

One year ago this month, I published a piece at BASEDPolitics titled ‘Free speech as a right-wing value’ in reaction to the Biden administration announcing a new ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ that coincided with the news that Musk was buying Twitter.

I wrote, “Seemingly overnight, the old consensus about free speech as an American ideal was now being painted as a partisan cause that Musk and others were somehow misguidedly obsessed with.”

I even cited the old free speech consensus that was once a bedrock value for American liberals as expressed by then Democratic President Barack Obama in 2015.

Eight years ago the Charlie Hebdo attack happened in Paris, France, where two Muslim extremists shot up the office of a satirical newspaper that had published a cartoon that was offensive to some in the Muslim community.

In light of that tragedy, some wondered if we should begin to limit certain speech in the West. Yet Obama boldly defended free speech.

“Free expression and a free press are core values, they are universal values, principles that can be attacked but never eradicated,” Obama said then.

He continued, “We’ve spoken repeatedly about the importance of upholding the freedom of expression that is enshrined in our Constitution.”

“If somebody is able to intimidate folks out of releasing a satirical movie, imagine what they start doing when they see a documentary that they don’t like, or news reports that they don’t like,” Obama warned.

Take that Tom Costello and Brian Stelter! You don’t have to like what Tucker Carlson or anyone else says to recognize their right to say it!

Obama had a killer next line.

“Or even worse, imagine if producers and distributors and others start engaging in self-censorship because they don’t want to offend the sensibilities of somebody whose sensibilities probably need to be offended.”

“That’s not who we are,” Obama insisted. “That’s not what America is about.”

Unfortunately, by 2022, seven years after the political rise of Donald Trump and post the COVID-19 pandemic, Obama had joined the same anti-First Amendment Democratic mindhive Costello and Stelter expressed in their half minute clip.

Defending Biden’s proposed Disinformation Governance Board, the former free speech advocate told an audience at Stanford University that when it comes to social media companies and “disinformation,” “regulation has to be part of the answer.” Obama would go on to say that current “content moderation” by the companies themselves “doesn’t go far enough” in tamping down on “clearly dangerous content.”

This was before the Twitter Files revealed that the federal government was working in tandem with social media to censor speech, but obviously in defending a state-run “board” to stamp out “disinformation” was an admission that Obama believed the government must intervene.

In other words, speech must be regulated. Tucker Carlson must be “policed.”

The exact opposite of what Obama promoted in 2015. The exact opposite of the spirit of the First Amendment. An accurate reflection of how Costello and Stelter now view the parameters of allowable speech in America.
Obviously, not all right-wingers are consistent supporters of free speech and you can find examples of Republicans actively working against this all-American value. Too many examples for my taste.

But while not all rightwingers support free speech, merely upholding free speech is now considered right-wing. There is no longer a pro-free speech consensus on the Left like there used to be. The new Left consensus is that speech should be regulated, censored and “policed” according to central authorities’ definitions of what’s true and not.

For today’s Left, the First Amendment is now outdated and the principle of freedom of expression is dangerous.

You don’t have to take it from me. MSNBC straight up admitted it. Without even trying.

Tucker Carlson drops first episode of ‘Tucker on Twitter’—questions media narrative on Kakhovka Dam
Carlson explained that such a catastrophic potential consequence indicates that if done purposefully, such an act was one of "terrorism" rather than a "military tactic."

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson dropped the first-ever episode of his new show, "Tucker on Twitter," on Tuesday, following his ousting from Fox News in April [see this thread - OB].

Carlson jumped right into recent news, reporting that there has been an explosion at the Kakhovka Dam in southern Ukraine. He noted that this attack "puts the largest nuclear reactor in Europe in danger of melting down," and explained that such a catastrophic potential consequence indicates that if done purposefully, such an act was one of "terrorism" rather than a "military tactic."

He then took some time to attack war hawks in the Washington establishment such as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and former Republican Governor Nikki Haley for their support of continued American involvement in Ukraine.

I feel you but people arent blindly following these guys.

Well, some are, but many will challenge the guy if he starts spouting BS.

Tucker's notoriety came from the fact that he was the "lone voice" in all of network and cable news telling anything close to the truth about things.

Joe Six Pack and Grandma could get their daily dose of Howard Beale with one smash of the remote button.

But they are part of a rapidly diminishing group of folks that still watch "teevee".

Carlson is diving into the sea of the internet with, what amounts to, a high production value podcast.

Trouble is, there are already ten million people doing political podcasts.

Some are much better than he is.

I hope he finds success.

84 million views and counting. [1]

If just a fraction of those actually watched the video, it would still beat anything on "prime time" cable news. [2]

Part of it may be due to the "novelty" factor, and the number will probably drop off as time goes by - but even allowing for that, I suspect he'll still get numbers that at least 99% of podcasters (and 100% of cable news talking heads) will wish they could get.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Tucker Carlson launches first episode of low-budget Twitter show after Fox News firing
https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/06/media/tucker-carlson-reliable-sources/index.html

(CNN) Tucker Carlson is back — sort of.

Nearly a month after vowing a return to right-wing commentary through a show on Elon Musk’s Twitter, the fired Fox News host made good on his promise Tuesday evening and posted a 10-minute monologue to the social media platform.

The commentary, which appeared next to a “Tucker on Twitter” logo at the corner of the screen, was in the same style as viewers have come to expect from Carlson, a conspiracy-peddling talk-show host who gave voice to some of the most extreme ideas in right-wing politics.

The NYT’s Katie Robertson and Jeremy Peters summarized the first episode like this: “He expressed sympathy for President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia and mocked President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. He accused the mainstream media of lying. He wrapped up by declaring that U.F.O.s and extraterrestrial life are ‘actually real.’”

“As of today, we’ve come to Twitter,” Carlson said in the video. “We’re told there are no gatekeepers here. If that turns out to be false, we’ll leave.”

The move by Carlson could inflame the behind-the-scenes negotiations with Fox News, given that Carlson remains under contract with the channel. Carlson has hired the powerhouse attorney Bryan Freedman to help him in such efforts, according to multiple reports.

Regardless, whether the Twitter show has the same influence and reach as Carlson’s one-time Fox News time slot is far from certain. The prime time perch at Rupert Murdoch’s right-wing network is uniquely powerful and unrivaled in the conservative media ecosystem. Carlson faces an uphill climb if he hopes to reclaim the power he once enjoyed through Twitter videos.

The first episode of “Tucker on Twitter” didn’t help. The debut video looked like a meager shell of Carlson’s former show. The production quality was bare bones, with the audio gently echoing in the background as Carlson used his spare hand to scroll through the teleprompter himself.

Supporters of Carlson, in addition to those who would like to believe Musk can use Twitter to destroy the mainstream press, asserted that Carlson’s debut was a success, with more than 20 million views at the time of this publication. But what counts as a video view on Twitter is unclear. Musk himself said that “it simply counts if you saw the post on the X/Twitter app or via web browser, not how long you watched” [see footnote [1] in the previous post for the context of Musk's remark - OB]. In contrast, Nielsen, the gold standard of television ratings, provides data on the average number of concurrent viewers, not the cumulative number of views. The two sets of data are apples and oranges.

Nevertheless, Musk celebrated Carlson’s embrace of his platform on Tuesday, retweeting the video to his 140 million followers: “Would be great to have shows from all parts of the political spectrum on this platform!”

Tucker Carlson Posts First Installment of New Show on Twitter
The 10-minute video was similar to a stripped-down version of his former Fox program.

(New York Times) Tucker Carlson, the sidelined prime-time Fox News host, on Tuesday released the first installment of what he said would be his new show on Twitter, potentially setting up a confrontation with the cable network, where he remains under contract until early 2025.

The 10-minute video, Mr. Carlson’s first extended commentary since Fox took him off the air in April [see this thread - OB], was similar to a stripped-down version of what his roughly three million Fox viewers would have seen on his nightly program.

There were no guests or produced segments — only a monologue from Mr. Carlson, in which he hit some familiar themes. He expressed sympathy for President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia and mocked President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. He accused the mainstream media of lying. He wrapped up by declaring that U.F.O.s and extraterrestrial life are “actually real.”

“As of today, we’ve come to Twitter,” Mr. Carlson said in the video. “We’re told there are no gatekeepers here. If that turns out to be false, we’ll leave.”

He signed off the show, called “Tucker on Twitter,” by promising to be back with “much more, very soon.”

Fox management took Mr. Carlson off the air after concluding that he was too much of a liability. The two sides have not reached an agreement about the terms of a departure, including what kind of programming he could continue to make. Anchors like Mr. Carlson usually also have terms in their contracts that prevent them from making unsanctioned media appearances.

Fox News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Mr. Carlson announced last month that he would take a version of his Fox show to Twitter.

He was ousted after the Fox board discovered a racist text message that he had sent to one of his producers [see this post - OB] and that was among the evidence amassed by Dominion Voting Systems as part of its defamation lawsuit over false claims of election fraud that the network aired.

Fox settled with Dominion for $787.5 million on the day the trial was set to begin in April [see this thread - OB].
