[Video] Rand Paul foreign policy speech on senate floor 9/18/14

Hmm... He pulled this out quicker than I thought he would. http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?459123-Rand-Paul-on-The-Sean-Hannity-Show-discusses-ISIS-9-2-14&p=5637972#post5637972

By 2016, there will be more chaos and Rand will appear like a genius. The first time an American gets killed with a weapon stamped "Made in USA", there will be only one candidate who took this stand.

This wasn't a vote for authorization of force, just a vote to send weapons their way.

I did cringe when he talked about moderate Islam having the responsibility of fighting radical Islam. The U.S., Saudi, and Israel created radical Islam, not Arabs (moderate Islam, all each individuals like you and I).

But they do have the responsibility of fighting radical Islam. It's festering in their own countries and is threatening their own territories and governments. They have a lot to lose because of it.

I think that U.S intervention probably helps their recruiting and makes their numbers larger than they would be otherwise, but to say that there would be no radical Muslims absent U.S intervention I don't think is accurate either.

Is it the job of moderate Christians to fight radical Christians?

Radical Christians in this country aren't partaking in hostage taking, beheadings, and persecuting others right now. ISIS should be handled by the national governments as a sort of domestic terrorism. If we weren't actively trying to defeat Assad in the last year or so, they might have been wiped out of Syria by now.

Dunno, some of the people in other countries we have bombed and invaded might very well disagree. Extraordinary renditions, forced feeding, imprisonment without charge, spying and more. all in the name of fighting terrorism but very well could be called a religious war.

Because imprisoning people indefinitely, killing kids and innocents with drones and bomb drops and snipers is so much different than hostage taking, beheadings and persecution of others? Like it or not, it is the radical Christian element that has been the biggest promoter of these actions in our foreign policy in recent decades.

Or even domestic policy.
Radical Christians that kill:

or the Chris Kyle guy, remember him?
Kyle seemed to consider himself a cross between a lawman and an executioner. His platoon had spray-painted the image of the Punisher—a Marvel Comics character who wages “a one-man war upon crime”—on their flak jackets and helmets. Kyle made a point of ignoring the military dress code, cutting the sleeves off shirts and wearing baseball caps instead of a helmet. (“Ninety per cent of being cool is looking cool,” he wrote.) Like many soldiers, Kyle was deeply religious and saw the Iraq War through that prism. He tattooed one of his arms with a red crusader’s cross, wanting “everyone to know I was a Christian.” When he learned that insurgents had placed a bounty on his head and had named him al-Shaitan Ramadi—the Devil of Ramadi—he felt “proud.” He “hated the damn savages” he was fighting. In his book, he recounts telling an Army colonel, “I don’t shoot people with Korans. I’d like to, but I don’t.

I'm just starting the video now and it will be background noise while I play a game. How did he word it?

While I agree that the US has stoked the flames and helped radical Islam become more powerful, I do think we should stop doing that and let people living in the area fight these radicals rather than further getting involved. Countries like Iran and Syria seem willing to fight them and it is more in their best interest to defeat them than ours since they live right next to them.

Our government has made a lot of foreign policy mistakes, but we don't go overseas and kill innocent people intentionally. We don't target civilians. It doesn't really have anything to do with Christians either. I doubt if President Obama is a Christian. But you don't see Christians running around beheading people and committing acts of terrorism.

I wish Rand would stop referring to Saddam Hussein as "Hussein." There's a million "Husseins" in and around governments in the Middle East. It's even our President's middle name. Sounds really unsophisticated at a time where he should want to appear otherwise. Saying just "Saddam" is acceptable but not just "Hussein." Rand would also sound better by saying "Bashar al-Assad," or "the Assad government," or "the Syrian government," or something, instead of just "Assad" as he always does. IMHO. I'm honestly surprised his staff doesn't fine tune these sorts of things.

Good point. And what about the British stampeding all over the Middle East in the early 1900's to plunder the oil and install their territorial overlords? And the Americans following suit. And redrawing national boundaries and installing unwanted puppet dictators?

If I were a "moderate" Islamic citizen I believe I might resent being asked to "step up" by the politicians from the western imperialist plunderer nations.

Ok, yeah after hearing it, I disagree. But I understand why he said it. I read and hear morons that are republicans saying things like "why don't moderate muslims condemn radical muslims?". They do you morons. Until they get hired by Fox News to tell you that, you'll never know it. Why don't you condemn pedophiles random murican? I haven't seen you on the news condemning it and of course the news would totally come to your backyard and showcase you. Rand said that because he's in the party of stupid and pandering to stupid.

What in God's name is with some guy continually talking into an open mic while Rand is giving his speech? It's a relatively low volume but monumentally annoying.

I find it amusing that there are those that call Rand a sellout when a speech like this has probably not been given in the Senate for decades if not longer.

Did anyone catch how he kept repeating himself with slightly different wording and inflections? :D

You know what that's about, right?

In Hollywood, the call those "retakes". Trying to get the ad folks good clips to use.

Actually, it seems those are the prepared remarks, not a transcript of what he actually said.

Amazing !
Senator Dr. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) is 110% Right On here . . . Rand is awesome !

The Federal Register will have a hard copy of course as soon as the full transcript is transcribed per Senate protocol.

Gee, I wonder who sounds more presidential than Rand . . . maybe these GOP characters . . . (?)

Who is electable for the Grand Ole Party . . . especially considering Ohio will be in play again for the general election for 2016 ??
