[Video] Rand Paul at NH Voters First Forum 8/3/15

Awesome - Rand thanks the moderator for letting him come in by remote - he has work in the Senate today - great start imo

might have needed a glass of water or something though so far -

. . . Rand is really setting himself apart from the other neocon and pro PA and surveillance candidates.

Rand did great imo.

He had a great smile when reference made to his Dad at the start of second segment.

A+++

prior photo of Mrs. Ron Paul -
Rand looked great tonight - get him some Gatorade or something -
he's been talking on the United States Senate floor all day long too.

Wow, Rand was as sharp as he could be and owned that entire dialogue! That was big time and is just a taste of how strong he'll be in subsequent debates. Ante up yall!

I poo poo'd his performance in another thread but watching it again (hey, it's election season...) he actually did fairly well.

Rand rocked it except for his response to the open-ended closing statement question... it was good, but not as sharp as he's delivered it in the past. At this point (re: a couple days before the 1st debate) he should be have his answer to the all-important "Why you?" question down pat.

Also, while it doesn't bother me in the least, the wild hair look is hurting Rand with lots of "independents" (aka LIVs) who vote based on gut reaction and personal impression rather than policy.

I think Camille Paglia's recent comments on Rand's style/appearance and the broader importance of both looking and acting/playing the part of president in today's media age were pretty spot on.

As a libertarian, I find myself agreeing with Rand Paul on so many different social and political issues. Unfortunately, however, Paul lacks gravitas as a physical presence. The U.S. presidency has a highly ceremonial aspect. The president isn’t merely a prime minister, a political leader–he’s the symbolic embodiment of the nation. Therefore, physical attributes and vocal style are very important. Despite the cartoons that caricature and ridicule him as a befuddled boy with big ears, Obama has always known how to handle himself as a candidate and then president. He projects a sober, unflappable confidence and presents himself with elegance and grace–all of which produced his success early on, when Hillary was the frontrunner in 2008.

In the primary debates, Cruz will benefit from having a tall and commanding physique, as Bill De Blasio did in the New York mayoral debates. On the whole, Republicans don’t seem to realize that persona and self-presentation are crucial in a media age.

For example, Rand Paul has obviously had his eye on the presidency for years, so it’s astonishing that he apparently has never given any thought to how he should dress or cut his hair or even stand in front of cameras. It’s as if his idea of style was flash-frozen in the Everly Brothers era. The tall candidate often has a big advantage in any campaign. It wasn’t the case with Jimmy Carter, but he was an exception. People do want a sense of implicit authority in the president.

This is my only issuse with Rand campaign, hope that his campaign team fixed this before the election heats up.

Pretty good. But he said Obamacare when he meant planned parenthood, unfortunate. He corrected himself on Twitter.

A sign of just how messed up the people in this country really are. Who cares if this guy has principles, wants to give us all our freedoms back, fix the economy, on top of many other things..his hair is bad so I just CANT vote for him.

Assuming Rand did win..what steps can be taken to negate / eliminate the media's social conditioning and subsequent immorality / superficiality of the populace?

Wow, that was great stuff.

Rand is intelligent, courteous, calm, assured, specific, and rational. He commands respect not from bullish over-the-top or shrill hyperbole, but from a meekness that is refreshing.

His responses are well thought out, conservative for the right reasons, and strike a perfect tone.

He is different, in all the best ways. He represents the higher republicanism, bridge-building, all encompassing, peacefully strong, and quintessentially American.
