I'm not Muslim, but I've watched more than one of this Sheikh's videos. Despite what you think of his point-of-view about some things, you cannot deny he is a VERY well-studied man. And talks about the Qur'an and how it calls for a gold standard, the Dinar and Silver Durham as real money. If his views are the common views among the majority of Muslims, then they would no doubt support RP for more than one reason, this being a good one. I also learned many a good information about Islam...I had no idea that the Qur'an says Jesus(Isa) will return just as the Christians believe. Some good stuff for someone well versed in Christian End of Days studies. Anyway, though some might enjoy the watch...

Yeah, Islam is a very interesting faith. They do not believe Jesus was the Son of God or died on the cross. They believe one of his followers was made to look like Him and died there while He was actually taken into Heaven without tasting death. So they don't believe in the Christian idea of the Atonement. But they do believe in what Christians would call The Second Coming, that Jesus will return again and condemn the wicked and exult the righteous. As for being educated, many Muslims are VERY educated when possible. The Quran places a VERY high value on education. In fact one of Mohammed's most humiliating moments is when the angel Gabriel shows him a book from Heaven commanding him to read and it cannot. It happens three times, I believe, before he finally embarrassedly confesses that he cannot read at all. I'm not Muslim but I have tried to gain a knowledge of it, as much as an outsider can, and have come to respect it. While not believing it to be full religious truth I cannot help but se ethere is much good in it.

It definitely makes me question the kind of person I was back when I was laughing at the stereotype's pushed upon us from Hollywood and the MSM(i.e. Team America, South Park) While it resonates with much of my generation, it's doing horrible things to the way we think about the Muslim community in general. I know when I worked in a liquor store I got tired of people coming in refering to the Gas Station owner down the road as a "derka derka" or something...He wasn't even an Arab, he was Indian...

Perhaps but Obama approval among Muslims is higher than any other religous groups - even more than Jews. His support among Muslims is the only one that is higher now than when he took office. So that vote isn't going to Ron.

you make the mistake of assuming that all muslims believe that jesus will come back and bring justice to the world. It is mainly shi'ite muslims who believe that jesus will return along with the 12th imam who they believe went missing, believing him to return with jesus. Also, like Jews, muslims do not believe in usury, or at least thats what their quaran teaches. But as you know, people do not exactly follow to the word religious teachings and as a result muslims often skirt this issue.

Paul receives respect and recognition whenever I bring him up at the mosque. He is pretty much the only GOP candidate in the field who isn't outright pandering to anti-Islamic sentiments, and very many of his views are compatible with common concerns of the Muslim community. I would ever go as saying that the amount of politically active Muslims who support Ron Paul is much greater than the national average. And they are VERY fed up with Obama.

In fact, if you actually study the concept of Shariah law, you will find that among western political ideologies it is most compatible with libertarianism. Emphasis on decentralized, local law making; being able to keep one's earned capital; welfare subsisted through individual acts of charity; etc. There is a cool video that I will try to find where and Islamic scholar argues that the closest thing to Shariah that has ever been practiced is the United States constitution.

I wish that the grassroots community would be more interested in reaching out to the Islamic community and snag a few million alienated votes, but people would rather affiliate with those fringe Molotov Mitchell types.

And off topic but to reply to the above thing about Jesus: on the contrary, "all" Muslims believe in the second coming of Christ. It is made very clear in the Quran. Shi'ites have a disagreement over the nature of "madhi", an Islamic religious leader that is also prophesied to appear in that era.

Surah 19:30-34

He said: "I am indeed a servant of Allah: He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet;
"And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me Prayer and Charity as long as I live; "(He) hath made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable; "So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)"! Such (was) Jesus the son of Mary: (it is) a statement of truth, about which they (vainly) dispute.

Hmm? South Park and Team America were satirizing the American perception of muslims.

Interesting you say that, a friend of mine who grew up as a muslim started smiling when I described libertarianism once, because he thought it was incredibly similar to islam. He still considers himself a muslim, just without the spiritual stuff.

Islam is such a misunderstood religion. I'm sort of between majoring in Mathematics and Religion right now, so this is of great interest to me. Thanks!

In Islam usury (profiting from lending) is illegal. Its the one part of Sharia Law that I think a lot of people could get behind. Our whole debt based banking/monetary system is a loser for anyone that doesnt own a bank.

Nice thread, thanks. :) ETA: fascinating video.:cool::toady: Hey! He gives great respect to RP! Sweet! :) ETA 2: he's pretty funny too :D
