Video From Maine Convention

wouldn't it have been easier to get these resolutions passed the old revolution way? The violent and bloody revolution our country was founded on.

I only watched the 1st video

My observations:

We need to be better prepared to argue our points (speak in favor of the amendments)... maybe even taking some public speaking classes or rehearsing with friends/family

There is nothing wrong with the message... we just need to be better... or more prepared messangers.
I agree with you on that. Some arguments were better presented then others, but if more preparation was put in it would be much more solid all around. Unfortunately they cut debate off entirely after a certain point, so noone was able to argue the later platform amendments at all. It was already skewed against the amendments in that there was only one pro, one con, with the con getting the last word - and often times the person in opposition would present an easilly rebuttable argument. For instance the guy that says he believes we shouldnt just leave people out on the street and we should be good neighbors... obviously noone disagrees with that, but we think that is the role of individuals, whereas it is "supposed to be" the democrats who believe it is the role of the government.

But when debate ceased, I think that basically ruined the chances for the rest of the amendments entirely. Even something as basic as urging candidates to sign a taxpayer pledge was nearly defeated, and just barely squeaked by.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the message or the messenger. The problem is with the recipient. I mean, look at those people...obviously their beliefs are set in stone.

Not that a bit of suaveness would hurt, though.

I don't think they are set in stone. Once someone experiences tyranny they finally learn. I hope they all feel the effects of betrayal and SOON! Notice how they are all old, newspaper reading, FAUX News watchers, and obviously richer naive folk. I moved out of Maine last year, I wish I stayed.

They're laughing because the recognize it as true Freedom platforms and think we're all a bunch of kooks...

they're brainwashed.....

Rangeley, checked out your blog and noticed you won a small position in the local party. Congrats.

Well, not exactly in stone but the magnitude of their ignorance isn't to be underestimated.

It's sad but true that one has to personally experience tyranny to acknowledge its existence. It's a pretty rude awakening when your truths begin to crumble around you - it happened to me and I can vouch for the "set in stone" thing. It's truly outrageous and unbelievable until it happens to you. Even my closest and oldest of friends are skeptical of the things I speak.

And even more sad is the fact that people are waking up every day - this is both good and bad. Good in that our numbers are growing, bad because for them to have awakened, something unfortunate probably disrupted their lives.

If that's what it takes though...:(

Here is the District 1 Delegate nomination/election process. This is probably the one true highlight, since it is where we managed to get one delegate of three. However, due to lack of clarity on what exactly was going on, more then 3 people were nominated by Ron Paul supporters, which might have cost us by splitting the vote. That is something that should definitely be kept in mind in future conventions.

And thanks, MS0453.

17 total nominees for one district? Maine certainly did theirs different than NC. Most of our district elections had just a handful of nominees.

You definately don't need more than 3 Paul nominees in a district election.

The problem was that some people thought that it was the time to nominate all delegates, including those for the 12 at large spots. Someone eventually asks if the at large spots can be nominated later, and it is clarified that they can be (and were supposed to be.)

I was there. It was a very discouraging experience. They forced McCain signs on me, which I passed down, but almost threw them or tore them up. When we were rallying, I wanted to go to the microphone and declare that John McCain is not a Republican and a war-mongering Democrat. I wanted to tell everyone Ron Paul is the only Republican running for president. I probably would have been removed by the sargent at arms, but it would have been worth it. Oh well, it was my first convention so I played it safe.

I also heard the laughing at the amendments. Bah, Constitution? Haha, that's stupid. Seriously, if you say anything against the war these morons will vote against it. Ten minutes in that Iraq hell and they would wake up. I'd like to see these morons fight in a war, and then ask them if it was worth it, policing a civil war that has nothing to do with our national security. Another fucked up thing is John McCain saying "It's not American presence, it's American casualities." This just proves his lack of respect for human life, as we have lost over 4,000 fellow Americans and countless Iraqi lives. I guess it was hopeless to change their brainwashed minds. Thanks Romney for reflocking your sheep to your master. I'm glad I missed that speech.

Pisses me off. We have all this time for hooray and BS speeches by Senator Collins and Snowe, but then all of a sudden we need to rush through the platform. Ann Robinson didn't like what she saw the first time, so she kept having us vote. I yelled, "So vote on it!" because apparently she was reluctant to see the no votes, so she could press her neocon agenda.

I have seriously contemplated switching my registration to Libertarian. I am already a member, but a registered Republican. This whole experience sucked. I can't even say the experience was good.

Maine did the best they could--& the one thing you HAVE to see--is it's the AMOUNT of RP supporters that --follow through-- that will make ALL the difference.

Attrition is happening for them ...& us! Yet, THIS is when, IF the NUMBERS WORK, we can remind them of the roots of the Republican party. I'm aghast at what was not voted in affirmation of!!!!

One person may think *I won't matter if I don't make it*...YET RP supporters ***need*** to know ...EVERYONE OF YOU MATTERS!!!!!!

When people decline going to a convention due to whatever... a trip....or a childs *recital*..my question to them is : will they have another opportunity in a yr from now for a recital???

THIS is the attitude that got us where we are now!! God help us!!!

If you are an RP delegate from your caucus...KNOW ...your State NEEDS YOU!!!!!!!!

PLEASE get to your state convention!!!!!

This cannot be stressed enough. I had 28 delegates/alternates drop out from my City (out of a total of 88), about 16 of them were RP folks. It was frustrating to see that even amongst ourselves we have sheeple.

And josephadel_3, I hope that you stay involved. We have some good people running for the statehouse. Come out to some of the local Portland meetings....The Portland republican leadership has been reaching out to us, i'd go so far as to say they're desperate for any new blood really (this is Portland after all, the Republicans are the "3rd party here" after the Dems and the Greens). My new meetup group should be up and running in the next week or two. The Southern Maine RLC. I hope its another way to get our message out and keep us RP folk together as a block. Attendence at the next convention in 2 years will probably be down so hopefully if we can keep our core group together we can have a much larger say than this past convention.

A similar thing happened in Freeport. We had 15 delegates originally, 4 of which were for Ron Paul. Only 4 people showed up at the convention, 3 of whom were Ron Paul supporters, so the drop-off certainly hit the other side harder... but I regret not doing more to get the vacated spots filled with Paul supporters.

If we can keep together for 2010, I think we stand a much better chance to have an impact. Even though we were not the majority this time, I was glad to see so many people took the time to show up, and stay even after all the stuff they pulled, and even after it became pretty clear our success was going to be limited. That type of dedication and perseverence is what we need to enact change.

I have two new videos up. One is the video of the nominating/election of District One Alternates, results from District Two, and a few other things.

The other is the Ron Paul video and ensuing rally that occured during the 15 minute recess. Apparantly the only time we could get to do anything was when the convention was technically not occuring, and most were out getting lunch. It was still cool though.

I will stay involved. I was venting. I guess it's best to overhaul it from within than trying to change it from the outside. I've got my elephant gun ready.

If all the people waving signs in this video had become delegates, our results would've been improved dramatically. I'm not sure how often or how loudly it needs to be said but sign waving is just not going to get the job done... GET IN THE GAME, become a delegate... take over other party positions like precinct leader, state committee etc.
And of course, keep spreading the message.

Those people were delegates. It was a rally on the convention floor during a recess.
