If this is legit, then WTF Benton???

Please stay the fuck away from Rand's bid in 2016.

I think most of the grassroots had an inkling that something like this went on. A couple of important quotes from the article.
"It’s jerks like you (Benton) who make the system corrupt, demoralize the grassroots and enable the very enemies of your grandfather-in-law."

"These are extremely serious allegations. There is no indication that Ron Paul was aware of any of this."
Benton is toxic and has no business getting near the liberty movement. It looks that he has gotten himself into some serious deep water here. It's good that this is coming out now as Rand has a chance to get out in front of it. Benton and McConnell deserve each other.

Should be easy enough to find out if a $30k check was written. Either through the bank records or the campaign reports.

This is the Jesse Benton I know, especially that flippant, "I'll pray for you," line.

However, honestly, these allegations strike me as completely typical of politics.

Is this involving the person that ditched Bachmann's dying campaign and switched over to help Ron's?

Here's a link to the blogger that actually wrote the story: http://theiowarepublican.com/2013/the-payoff-details-revealed-on-sorensons-deal-with-ron-paul/

When this all happened, we called Michele Bachmann a liar for saying it. Now it looks like we may owe her an apology.

I like that idea.

Some kind of front page open letter to her from Ron Paul supporters, apologizing for having ever trusted Benton, could have a nice effect. It's not that we should have considered her the pinnacle of honesty. But no biped should be made out to be more of a snake than Benton.

Really?

This memo not only discloses the financial compensation Sorenson sought to obtain, but also details his financial agreement with Bachmann.

I don't know what really happened with this whole deal and no one here does, either. How about we not jump to conclusions before we find out for sure. I'm also going to keep in mind that U.S. Congressman from Iowa, Steve King, was running around at the time offering his endorsement to that presidential candidate that offered the most money. Have you all forgotten that?

I'm also going to keep in mind that Ron Paul Republicans worked hard to get in key positions of the Iowa GOP, much to the dismay of the establishment Republicans. I'm also going to remember that Rand Paul is leading by leaps and bounds in Iowa for 2016 and the establishment will do anything they can to change that. I'm not going to help them.

EDIT: I do remember that Sorenson had been a huge supporter of Ron Paul and it was Ron Paul Republicans who worked to get him in office. So, it's not a surprise that there was a lot of discussion between the camps as RP was gearing up to run again. Everyone expected for Sorenson to support Ron Paul and I remember the shock when he initially went to Bachman's camp. There were Iowa activists on this forum who were mad as hell.

Personally, I think this is all being pushed right now to get Ron Paul Republicans out of their key positions in the Iowa Republican Party.

If you claim you didn’t know what your deputy campaign manager was doing to seduce Kent Sorenson, you should have known.

So basically he doesn't have any proof of it. In his own email he states if it did happen[/I], Benton should have known it happened.

I see nothing of substance here....just an allegation with no proof.

TheIowaRepublican.com reached out to Sen. Sorenson for comment on this story. Sorenson stated that entire story was fabricated by Fusaro. He also flat out denied that he or his wife received a $30,000 check from Dimitri Kesari in advance of joining the Paul campaign in December of 2011.

Guys, I seriously think this is an effort to rout RP Republicans out of their key positions in the Iowa Republican Party. Don't you remember when the establishment there were talking about creating an entirely new party, just because of it? It looks to me like they are trying this approach instead.

Why do you so easily take the bait?

All the more reason for RP Republicans to get on the right side of this.

Taking the bait would entail defending Benton.

I wouldn't do anything while she herself is in the middle of an ethics investigation and certainly not until this becomes more than hearsay. Which while I don't doubt it, until a copy of the check shows up with dates etc., legally it is hearsay. Why would the whole of RP supporters offer an apology when there's no evidence that all RP supporters called her a liar? As far as I am concerned she's done enough to hurt the liberty movement in other ways, I don't feel she deserves an apology for anything. Let Jesse Benton apologize and pay the piper if these allegations are true.

.

I said we MAY owe her an apology if the campaign paid Sorensen to jump ship. And that is true even if Benton didn't know about the possibly fictitious payment.

But I don't see a copy of the check, either.

I agree.

Hopefully it's true though, so we can do that. I don't see him apologizing no matter what the truth is. At least not until it's too late and he has to grovel to his grandfather-in-law for some crumbs off the table.

Also, we definitely wouldn't want to do something that actually makes Bachmann look good. It has to be back-handed, so that she's still bad, and Benton's worse.
