Very Serious Allegations Made Against 2012 Ron Paul Campaign Manager Jesse Benton

Dude it's in the news. That's why it's on the forum. The news articles came first. Are we supposed to stick our hand in the sand or close our eyes and say lalala?

IMO it just implicates the usual suspect. Haven't seen proof that Ron knew, just that he hires some idiots.

These things get in the msm news because they are discussed on here. MSM reasearch types come here for the dirt, some here are all too glad to air the dirty laundry. This went from some other obscure website to here to maddow.

It's an obvious hit piece / hatchet job. Whether it's valid or not has no relevance on whether we should be increasing it's ranking by posting it in the open forum.

Would you say the same thing about a hit piece against Lamar Alexander?

Yup.

You people give this forum too much credit. It being on the Iowa Republican and Des Moines Register on the same day is what got it on the msm.

It's audio proof. Of course it hits the msm.

The group on the ground in Iowa has spent at least 6 years accomplishing what they have and it hasn't been easy. If you think for one minute that all of the gains can be tossed out without devastating our chances in the 2016 election, you really have no clue.

But, then again, you WANT Rand to lose, don't you.

Try reading something more recent, like the post in my sig line.

Exactly. We're talking about the campaign manager for the re-election of the Senate Minority Leader. Of course the MSM is going to pick it up.

Just to get this straight:

The allegation is that Benton broke the law in order to secure an endorsement from some dude named Kent Sorenson?

Maybe I'm naive but this strikes me as stupid and illogical. Why would he possibly do such a thing?

No one possibly thinks Kent Sorenson's endorsement is going to have any impact on an election right. So why risk breaking the law (and spend $30K) for something so utterly worthless.

I'm not really buying it.

You don't have to buy it. We have an audio tape of Sorenson admitting he got the money.

Maybe the money was for the mailing list(s) that Sorenson had control of.

This is the stupidest topic in recent memory. Benton recruited a paid campaign staffer from Bachman to RP. BFD, this happens in every campaign. Are some of you that clueless about how politics works?

You know guys, I think part of this hate for Benson comes from the fact that it is painful for you to admit that Ron Paul himself did a lot of the screwing of his chances to become President. Both times, in fact. It's easier to blame someone else.

I think you rather go with this route than to ever see Benton get any flack....?

All in all, Benton is going to be apart of our movement and apart of the 2016 bid. I guess we can call him out but unless something huge happens, like Jack Hunter huge...he isn't going anywhere.

As for the "bribe", well it is politics after all, staffers get picked up and dropped off all the time in exchange for cash or "income".

If he did, he had legitimate reason to. Benton went after him first.

It's crazy to believe that Tom Woods isn't an ally.

Sure, he's an ally, but he has no common sense. To publicly go after Ron Paul's campaign was politically ignorant as all hell. Yet, he made the conscious choice to do it. Woods is only human and I think his ego got the best of him in this situation.

In the audio is Kent talkin about giving the check back to Benton? Because rachel maddow framed it as though he was directly talking about Ron.

Oh,,there were a lot of people that supported Ron Paul an yet were rightfully critical of the campaign.
The campaign both sucked and lost,, and more than a few of us suspect deliberate sabotage from the inside.

Support for Ron does not equal support for the botched campaign.

Whoa! You need to use the spacebar, there! ("apart of" means the exact opposite of "a part of")
I didn't understand what you were getting at until you said "he isn't going anywhere." :)

Actually, I've seen way too much of the crap around here where mud was flung at Benton and the gaggle joined in to pile on. Such was the case when Benton was accused of earning piles of money from Ron Paul's '08 campaign, when it was proven that no, that wasn't accurate at all. That money was mostly reimbursements for charges he had put on his personal card for all kinds of things having to do with the campaign. I had hoped the campaign had learned from that and would have a corporate credit card if Ron ran again, but I guess it all happened so quickly, it wasn't the case yet again. The same BS charges were leveled again in '12 and once again, the gaggle joined in. This is just one of the many examples. Sorry, but I'm not going to pile on the bash squad, just because most here are on it.

Ahem.... Let's wait and see where any investigation into this leads before we continue defending these reimbursements.

It means they likely funneled campaign money through that guy's wife's jewelry store. The payment from the campaign is probably to him, and says something like "expense reimbursement" or something. Money laundering. Gosh, even the Democrats are smart enough to insist on cash.

Guys, I seriously think this is an effort to rout RP Republicans out of their key positions in the Iowa Republican Party. Don't you remember when the establishment there were talking about creating an entirely new party, just because of it? It looks to me like they are trying this approach instead.

Why do you so easily take the bait?

Or to prevent a liberty Republican from running for US Senate?

LOL, really, we got more delegates to the convention than all of the other candidates except for two of them, and it's possible we would've been in 2nd place if there hadn't been shenanigans on the part of the establishment.

Even Ron himself said he never expected to place 3rd in the Iowa beauty contest, yet we ended up with the vast majority of Iowa's delegates. The Campaign outperformed and exceeded expectations.

Compare it to 2008 for example.

Ron won both 2008 and 2012 because he created a longstanding movement with multiple organizations that will outlast both him and his campaigns.

,, and more than a few of us suspect deliberate sabotage from the inside.
As someone on the inside, I can assure you that didn't happen.
