Vatican blames Israel for all Christian problems in Mideast

Thursday, January 21, 2010
A document released by the Vatican this week blamed Israel not only for the exodus of Christians from Palestinian-controlled territories, but for the plight of Christians across the entire Middle East.
The document will serve as the basis for an October gathering of bishops to discuss the difficulties of minority Christian communities in the Muslim world.
It was largely authored by Arab bishops from the Middle East, most of whom said that the Israeli "occupation" of Arab-claimed lands is the root cause of nearly all oppression of Christians in the region. They suggested that in the absence of the "occupation," radical Islamic forces across the region would lose support and be unable to cause trouble for Christians.

I don't know. Something to keep an eye on in the long term given these churches aligning themselves with opposing powers. Expect them to take some kind of formal role in settling some of these religious squabbles that we are seing all over the world. Or a globally recognized neutral mechanism to interject with some of these other nations in turmoil. Particularly in the middle east.

If anyone reads anything where leaders or just general media make the recommendation for the phenomenon then please add it here in case I miss something. Like I said, though, likely a long term development.

I'm beginning to lose confidence in the geo-political perception of my peers. Of course, I say this respectfully. I'm not attacking people, but, we need to pay better attention to things so that when the actions evolve at the geo-political level, we better understand the true nature of the issues. This ain't rocket science.

Good post, though. Is certainly a predictable action by the Vatican. We'd just do well to not lose sight of the larger scheme of things when we see these things happenand evolve is all.

Last week, the Vatican edged close to formal recognition of a Palestinian state, finalizing a treaty in which for the first time, the Holy See makes explicit reference to a "state of Palestine."
Israel's Foreign Ministry, while voicing disappointment at the move, was unusually circumspect in its initial response, stating that the use of the term Palestinian state "does not advance the peace process."
