Note that only about three percent of those attacks/ deaths were in Western countries including the US.

For a military without unlimited resources, they are a lot cheaper. A suicide bomber might be more precise too, being they are up close to the enemy. Launching smart weapons from half the world away requires intelligence usually from troops on the ground.

I think what Danke is trying to say is that with their ground intelligence and their familiarity with the enemy, the dumb barrel bombs can be smarter and more precise than the "smart" bombs at killing terrorists. Also, do you not think that the terrorists would not try to position themselves with civilians? that way, no matter what bomb you use, there would be civilian casualties.

This is war folks, no matter how you fight it, civilians will get hurt. My problem is when a party who is responsible for the war, a party whose efforts are not welcomed by the natives and govt in the country is out there dropping bombs and killing civilians.

I would say a messy barrel bomb loaded with rusty nails and battery acid being used by a legitimate regime defending its territory is more accurate than GPS guided smart bombs painted by drone operators with HD cameras used by a foreign power trying to illegally dispose of the former.

Obviously, you can't waste your good nails on filthy terrorists but why use battery acid? its not flammable and the chemical might react during the combustion to create something that is not even corrosive. I will fill my barrel bomb first with things that increase the blast radius and then with things that hurt people like rusty nails not something that may or may not end up burning your skin

I think they already have all the good stuff in the barrel bomb. The victims of it and yes some are civilians don't look too good coming out of the bast. I wish there was a different way to end this war faster but these bombs are effective at destroying their dens.
