Is zones reliable?

Hit & Miss - unfortunately even the 'big suppliers' are up in the air about this one =/ b&n is cancelling shipments, compusa sold more than they have, amazon too.. eh.

This is all just really crazy. Slickdeals forum has almost 25,000 people watching the thread updates

Also, I suggest getting a price checker addon for your browser, and watching newegg.com.

Anyways, I just got off the phone with newegg asking about a price drop / price matching and from what the rep told me, he said that although newegg does NOT price match, they were aware of the price drop and that I should watch their site closely within the next 2 hours for a "surprise".

also:

Just spent 15 minutes chatting with a sales rep to see when my 32gb touchpad would be shipped....She informed me that tonight roughly HALF of all order placed through PC Richards will be cancelled and buyers will receive "an apologetic email."

yeah ive been on slickdeals chasing leads all day long. This is really beginning to piss me off.

DO NOT OVERSELL your god damn inventory BN!

Update: Zones putting a lot of order status' as backordered, however - these people posting that have bought the 16GB one (unaware the 32GB one was below it, for same price) *fingers crossed we're good for 32GB*

edit:

ordered from b&n at 9:48pm PST 8/21
received scheduled to ship at 10:37pm
received cancellation at 12:37am 8/22

If you ordered from b&n 1AM EST or later, consider yours cancelled.

edit again:

Just spoke with a rep from office depot his words directly were "we will be getting a shipment around 6pm EST and the site should go live very shortly after that" when i asked how much they would have in stock he couldnt confirm they exact amount.

That's why I went ahead and ordered another - Mr RoCKed ordered right after me, and got a cancel. ( But I just checked, and my B&N order still says it's on track to ship.) I wonder if they're routing orders to different warehouses based on location?

If I end up with 2, I'll just sell the 16 gb.

Like I said earlier in the thread.....one almost wishes this was some genius marketing tactic.
I'm hoping they'll get back in and do this again once they have a Win8 tablet within a couple years. Nvidia's Tegra team is ridiculously ambitious. By 2013, they expect 50x the performance of the current Tegra 2. Those are the two developments I've been waiting for before buying a tablet.

The stars will line up, and HP will release a Win8 Tablet with Nvidia's Stark or Logan processors, and then they'll pretend to get out of the market again, handing these out @ $100. Productivity software will no longer take a full minute to load like we're in the late 90s. 450+ mbps wireless routers will be commonplace. Take 500 movies over to your friends' houses with no hassle by plugging an HDMI cable in your tablet -- it has no problem displaying 4320p video. OLED screens will be replaced with screens with such brightness and quantity of pixels - and they'll consume just ~12% of the energy current screens use (displays are smartphones' biggest power draw, and a very significant draw for tablets). Li-Ion will be replaced with something lighter, without the problem where the battery fairly quickly and permanently loses capacity if left charged, without the form-factor constraint, and with a higher energy density. Tablets will last over a full day on one charge, be charged with a universal non-proprietary adapter (fuck off, Thunderbolt!), and be charged using solar energy more often than not.

- And Ron Paul will be president.

uh-oh. reports of 32GB from zones.com going on backorder now... =/

*sigh*

I wish Amazon and BN would just tell me already. I'm sick of sitting in limbo wondering if I'm going to be canceled.

Don't you think it's more likely that they'll sell their webOS for a premuim, using these sales as evidence that there's a legitimate market for devices running it? Of course, I don't think these stiff sales show anything other than a demand for a $99 portable web browser, but I could be wrong.
