When Western Illinois University puts together their annual mock presidential election, some pundits tend to perk up and pay attention. After all, they accurately predicted Barack Obama’s presidential win in 2007, and his narrower reelection win in 2011, after the same system had been used to astonishingly predict every presidential election since 1975 with 100% accuracy.

The results of WIU’s 2015 mock election are in, and if you tend to take the mainstream media seriously, the results of that election will more than likely surprise you: Bernie Sanders won the presidency, then the general election… and he did both in a massive landslide.
The WIU mock election, in which thousands of students from multiple schools form parties and caucuses and play out a small-scale election over the course of several days, has Bernie Sanders beating Hillary Clinton in 22 out of 26 primary states; Hillary Clinton survives past Super Tuesday, but loses out before the month of March is concluded.

From what I was reading, this is only the third time they have conducted their mock election. Not a very long track record to claim perfection in every election.

MACOMB, IL — This coming fall, students, faculty and staff at Western Illinois University will embark on the third quadrennial Mock Presidential Election (MPE), "The Road to the White House Starts at Western Illinois University." According to Centennial Honors College Director Rick Hardy, WIU's previous two mock election events were the largest and most elaborate mock presidential simulations in the nation.

"Indeed, Western's MPE may even be the most accurate political bellwether in the country. In 2007, Western students accurately elected Democrat Barack Obama president of the United States—one year before it actually happened," Hardy explained. "Recall that leading into the actual Iowa causes in 2008, Hillary Clinton was the prohibitive favorite to win the Democratic nomination, and few if any political pundits believed that an African American could win the nomination, let alone win the White House. This is downright ridiculous. Maryland going red was the first sign that this was pure hogwash, let alone South Carolina and Georgia going blue while Illinois and Hawaii going red? Even if I accept that some hypothetical group of candidates could have this outcome, it wouldn't be so with Sanders and Bush. I'm not sold, not even close.
