Universal Healthcare

No it isn't and I could find economists that disagree on all those issues.

Regardless of your opinions, all of the issues surrounding health care (and other topics) are covered in the book. The Brue book dedicates two entire chapters to health care, discussing both pros and cons. For a beginner, it is an excellent foundation upon which to build. While economists disagree on some of the debatable details, this book covers the basic which are not in dispute.

In a nutshelll...

I don't want the GOVT telling me what Dr's I can and can't go to.
I don't want the GOVT telling me I don't need a treatment if my Dr says I do...and I don't want to wait until I have a tumor that is beyond treatment to be told by the GOVT..."We'll allow this test now"

It won't work because the care will be crap. Just ask someone in the Military now.

well you can go visit your local VA hospital to see what every hospital will look like with this govt running them.

And the doctors will quit in droves.

But, other than that, nothing like getting something for 'free.'

also, when medical workers need raises because their standard of living is plummetting because of inflation, they'll have to go beg the government...

and we all know how great that is working for people on social security...

You can go to anyone. That's better than some insurance plans that make you go to their health care provider.

no..you won't be able to. You will only be able tp go to Drs that participate in the GOVT plan. Just like Drs who participate in Medicaid now. Not all do. Drs that are private you will have to pay for on your own...it will be just like the HMO's are now only run by GOVT.

I don't advocate limiting healthcare treatments. Why do you think they won't allow you to have tumor treatment? That's only if there was a shortage. We could always take resources from other areas and put them into healthcare. Did you know that marketing is one of the biggest waste of resources? It helps no one and makes cereal cost twice as much.

What you advocate doesn't matter..that is not how it will be. You need to lot at how Universal HC is run when it is GOVT. Your suggestions as to how it should be might be good...but it will not be the way you want it.

Military = entry level job so what do you expect?. They'll pay for braces and LASIK. Most insurance plans don't do that. A lot of entry level jobs give none and buying your own insurance is insane. This isn't universal healthcare and it has the problems that I already addressed. For instance, the "shortage" and all the lobbying and mingling with big Pharma. We can't even get drugs from Canada.

I'm talking about ppl who have been in the military for some time ...not enrty level.

And think about it. Anyone entry level or not...who is willing to serve for this county should be getting the best HC...and their not. Why would you think the rest of us would get better?

Have you even watched any the vid links in here. That's what you will get.

Ok, first off, this is not a question from me, but someone I know.

Basically, they want to know why Universal Healthcare is a bad idea (this guy is a devout socialist who's so devout he's called a "communist" by his friends)...basically I'd like some very well thought out posts against it, and, if possible, some videos explaining why it's a bad idea (socially as well as economically).

ask him if he would like to have his lab results come back from overseas to provide for the 24/7 coverage everyone demands?-true story already happening

Universal health care doesn't mean they'll need raises. How much would their base pay go down? Not by much and they would no longer get the mandatory 1.5 times their wage for working overtime. I already said tons of programs need to go and a grade in high school can go. So can a lot of teachers because classroom size can be bigger with no negative effect.

That's unrealistic...Drs spend a lot of money going to med school. Of course they will expect a cost of living raise.

Why do you think so many Drs have pulled out of Medicaid now? Because the payments to them are so low.

What does SS have to do with anything? Universal healthcare helps solve the problem. It's a safety net. What do most people do with SS money anyway? Blow it off on Christmas on useless Chinese junk.

The government will look for every way possible to stiff you. So when everything is paid for by government, your wages will not keep up with inflation. The medical field will be equivalent to slavery. Good luck encouraging new students into the medical field...

I mentioned SS because they get 3% cost of living increases, when actual inflation is 10% or higher. And to change that....you have to fight congress...

Universal Healthcare will destroy our healthcare system.

Paul10, again, I kindly ask you to leave my thread--you and a few others have hijacked it, and have completely deviated from my original intentions of this topic.

I created this topic to gather supporting evidence for why universal healthcare is bad, not to argue amongst ourselves about universal healthcare.

your statement on "they're arguing against me, so it's ok" isn't valid here either, that's not the point of the topic (to debate universal healthcare). To be blunt, this IS a one-sided topic.

It's like creating a topic about, say, arguments for why a blue house is better than a red one...you don't argue about why red is really better than blue and why blue is better than red...people that think blue is better (and have evidence) come and present it, and not much more.

I'm not trying to quash arguments about universal healthcare...this just isn't the topic to do it in.
