This.
I have been in R&D for 30 years. I have developed expert systems, network controllers, conferencing bridges, stuff that kills people, etc. Since at least 20 years past I have been warning people about the hazards of all this shiny technology that so many think is so great. Yes, there is a lot of power in the tools of the internet, but the very nature of the beast holds inherent hazards. Every sword has its other edge.
This rapid dependence on software to do the things that we used to do is not good. The more we use, the more we forget the other skills. What will be when we are no longer able to wipe our own butts without a robot's help? What then? Seriously - what are the tens of millions of inept sub/urbanites going to do when they have been reduced to such a state of dependence (masqueraded as "interdependence") that they can no longer fend for themselves in any meaningful way? That day is basically upon us now and we are rushing headlong into a state of even more profound helplessness... at least for some. For most.
