Turkey Shoots Down Russian Military Plane Near Syrian Border

Pretty obvious turkey is trying to rebuild its empire. I do have a question. Would turkey and saudi arabia cooperate? I mean, it seems like the two countries are secretly building a caliphate. Or would they eventually fight for #1.

The majority of Muslims in Saudi Arabia and Turkey are Sunni as was AlQaeda, ISIS, predecessor.

Man I would love to be a fly on the wall and hear some of these conversations taking place with Putin, Erdogan, Obama, etc...

I just hope they don't get us all killed.

Possible Russian retaliation. Still early so very unconfirmed. Also, kind of hard to ignore the Turkey/Thanksgiving thing, if you know how media mind games are often played.

Possible? Russia is not shy about repaying for this.

Terrorists in Su-24 search operation area killed - Russian Defense Ministry

https://www.rt.com/news/323578-su24-search-terrorists-killed/

“The moment our pilot was in safety the area was heavily bombed by the Russian Air Force and shelled by Syrian government forces artillery,” ministry spokesman General-Major Igor Konashenkov told a media briefing.

He stressed that terrorists and other “mysterious groups” were killed in the assault.

Of course, these jihadists seem to be happy to die considering they have no problem parading their deeds on the internet. Putin appears happy to oblige them.

I always wonder, if this was a just war, would we use pork based products in the fight? Like using garlic against vampires. Silver against werewolves.

If they are going to paradise, surely getting killed or having body contaminated with pork will hamper that.

US knew flight path of plane downed by Turkey: Putin

Moscow (AFP) - President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Russia had given prior information to the United States of the flight path of the plane downed by Turkey on the Syrian border.

"The American side, which leads the coalition that Turkey belongs to, knew about the location and time of our planes' flights, and we were hit exactly there and at that time," Putin said at a joint press conference with French counterpart Francois Hollande in the Kremlin.

“The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.”

Wow. That one is worth quoting the whole article. Putin is pointing his finger very directly. And very transparently.

Ahead of the Hollande talks, Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan traded barbs, with the Russian leader saying he was waiting for an apology and Erdogan ruling out any such move.

Putin on Thursday dismissed as "rubbish" Turkey's claim that it would not have shot down the jet if it had known it was Russian.

"They [our planes] have identification signs and these are well visible," Putin said. "Instead of [...] ensuring this never happens again, we are hearing unintelligible explanations and statements that there is nothing to apologise about."

Putin has also accused Turkey of buying oil from the Islamic State jihadist group, whose financing heavily relies on the sale of energy resources.

Putin said there was "no doubt" that oil from "terrorist-controlled" territory in Syria was making its way across the border into Turkey.

"We see from the sky where these vehicles [carrying oil] are going," Putin said. "They are going to Turkey day and night."

"These barrels are not only carrying oil but also the blood of our citizens because with this money terrorists buy weapons and ammunition and then organise bloody attacks," he added.

Majority of the worlds Muslims are Sunnis but the Saudis have a large number of salafists/Wahhabi type Muslims. These are the ones more prone to terrorism and in fact are responsible for the vast majority of Islamic terrorism. Think Boko haram, ISIS, Al Qaeda and the likes

Turkey excuses are laughable. If you know that neither the Syrian Air Force nor the Russian Air Force is threatening you, you do not shoot them down for I mere airspace violation.

Especially a "violation" that lasts 17 fucking seconds.

Ah the good old days, I went to their concert in the early 80's in Amsterdam. Stuck out like a sore thumb amongst all the gothic crowd. But they didn't care and passed the hashish pipe along. The concert was boring.

This militant form of Islam is spreading because those violent tendicies and searching for wordly glory are not limited to salafists/wahhabist.

Stumbling to War With Russia?

Why is he risking a clash with Russia?

Answer: Erdogan is probably less outraged by intrusions into his air space than by Putin’s success in securing the Syrian regime of Bashar Assad, whom Erdogan detests, and by relentless Russian air strikes on Turkmen rebels seeking to overthrow Assad.

....
Indeed, it now seems clear that in Syria’s civil war, Turkey is on the rebel-jihadist side, with Russia, Iran and Hezbollah on the side of the Syrian regime.

But whose side are we on?

As for what strategy and solution President Obama offers, and how exactly he plans to achieve it, it remains an enigma.

Oh please. Name some examples of these "violent tendencies" that are outside the salafists/wahhabists? I doubt you even know what the salafists/wahhabists are. You are too stuck in your "Christians are good Muslims are bad" mindset to think outside the box. Go pray the bad away and leave the thinking to us rational people.

I've been trying to understand how a plane can fly a little over 1 mile in 17 seconds. Wouldn't that mean they are stalling? Can SU 24's fly that slow?

The simple math is painting a scary picture that this is a major unprovoked attack on a superpower with massive military capabilities.

All the while, Turkey violates other sovereign nations' borders all the time. The hippocricy is astounding.

It's all about maintaining a double standard, by policy. The US and its allies can violate the sovereign space or rights of other countries, but other states cannot.

Huh? Turkey didn't attack the US, they attacked Russia

The fail is strong with this one. If America goes to war with Russia, it is over. We lose.

And even if you disagree with that, there is no denying that Russia is a superpower. It is not like turkey shot down a jet from Cuba.
