Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin is calling for a 9/11 style response to gun violence and suggesting people may have to give up some of their freedom in exchange for gun control.

NPR posted an interview with Franklin on Sunday, noting he is critical of constitutional carry, wants more regulations on firearms that Democrats describe as “ghost guns,” and is open to a waiting period for the purchase of AR-15s and similar firearms.

Franklin said, “Law enforcement – we are the experts. We’re the subject matter experts at protecting America – right? – protecting our cities. And, you know, we should be utilizing that in that manner. So I am charged with protecting this community. And if there are better ways of protecting it, I think we should be looking at those better ways to protect it.”

Public Radio Tulsa quoted Franklin saying:

Ultimately, I’m a Second Amendment guy…But I’m okay giving up some of that freedom, right? We had to give up some of that freedom after 9/11. I’m okay with waiting three days, five days, or whatever to get my firearm if I go out and purchase another firearm. So I’m okay with a pause to allow for weapons to be purchased and allow the government and the gun companies to look at the background and do a thorough check before that gun goes to someone.

Franklin compared giving up some freedom in exchange for gun control to the process people went through in adapting to seatbelt laws when they were first enacted.

He said, “You know, we put seatbelt laws in place, I’m not exactly sure when, probably the 1980s, I think. And we mandated that everyone starts wearing a seatbelt, and it took some time for people to grab hold of that. But if you look today it is an automatic thing that people put on their seatbelt when they get into a vehicle. You feel uncomfortable not wearing that seatbelt. I think again, we give something up to get safety for, for something safe. I think that’s where we are today. We are going to have to give up some things. And I think there are some things that we can give up for a safer community.”

Franklin became Tulsa’s 40th police chief on February 1, 2020.

U.S. News & World Report lists Tulsa as No. 8 in a list of the “Top 25 Most Dangerous Places in the U.S.”

Tulsa now has a strong mayor/alderman system. Years ago we could vote for police commissioner directly, and this crap didn't happen.

How about no.

Or how about gun control for the tiny segment of the population that commits over half of all homicides and the vast majority of the mass shooting in the US?

Sure. Let's not stop there. Let's implement controls on assault SUVs. And assualt butcher knives. And assault hammers. And assault baseball bats.

Then we can have Utopia. :collision:

Might be time for that police chief to step down from his position after spewing nonsense like that out of his mouth.

And what "freedom" is there left to give up?! We have already yielded the battlefield in the hope they would see sense. We have endured insult and even injury to family, God and country. Our wives and children threatened, mocked and insulted. Our ancestors and heritage mocked and insulted. Our way of life mocked and insulted. Our God and faith mocked and insulted. And this messenger of Xerxes asks for a simple offering of Earth and Water? God speaks in mysterious ways and, at some point, the open insults of these demonic blasphemers is nothing to us but an invitation to rouse ourselves like men and to strike down the enemies of God where they stand. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, with all power in heaven and earth; those who oppose peace, oppose God himself. God will send his agents, and they already know who they are. The sword of God is drawn, the hand of God upraised. There are no further insults that can be endured unless we are to join with our enemies in blaspheming God with our own inaction -- there can be no more delay and there is nothing left that can be yielded. Insult us if you dare, threaten us if you dare -- insult our country, insult our families, insult our children and grandchildren, insult our God and die where you stand. Jesus is Lord of All and his the name above all names. Not a game!

"Guns are dangerous when you have them, but not when we do. Guns are safe when we have them, but not when you do."

Fuck you. No.

Given that "gun control" literally is "giv[ing] up [...] freedom", what the hell is being "exchanged" here?

"Hey, guys, if you let me do something I want to do, then in 'exchange' for that, I'll do something I want to do. Great deal, huh? So how about it?"

Isn't it cute how his obvious and active desire for a thing is characterized as his being "open to" it, as if he's offering some of kind of concession?

Franklin said, “Law enforcement – we are the experts. We’re the subject matter experts at protecting America – right? – protecting our cities. [...]"

Shut the fuck up, "expert".

Ultimately, I’m a Second Amendment guy…But [...]

Ultimately, anything that comes before the word "but" doesn't really matter.

[more inane and completely irrelevant [1] blather about seat belts and giving up liberty for "safety" [2]]

IOW: "Tyranny is okay, because people will eventually get used to it."

[1] Seat belts are irrelevant to the issue, because unlike weapons (such as guns), seat belts are not essential to the defense of liberty, and they pose no danger to wannabe tyrants like this asshole.

[2] And you can be damn sure he isn't going to be giving up any of his guns in the name of "safety". Oh, no! Just the opposite, in fact. Suggest to this jackass that cops give up their guns, and he'd (rightly) howl blue murder about how "unsafe" that would make them - right before going on to tell you that giving up your guns will make you "safe".

The time is long past for robust defense of what is ours.

Arms are the final fig leaf.

If you think what we are suffering from our oppressors is bad now, wait until they disarm us.

This comment on Anonymous Conservative was recently shared with me, and this is one of the truest things I've read all year: "All hoplophobia[1] was driven by detectible latent homosexuality in 100% of all people examined by both Freud and Jung. It was almost a universal constant. Where anxiety about arms in the hands of other men was present, teh gay was right below the surface. Has to do with sociopathic dominance of other males. Widespread arms ownership foils plans to be a top."

---

[1] - "hoplophobia" means an unreasonable "fear of weapons", i.e. the latent groveling, submissive desire to be hog-tied and homosexually assaulted with the aid of gun-control laws or, conversely, to do this to other men/boys.

Even the animals are created with natural weapons with which to defend themselves. These psychopaths -- and I mean that in the true definition of that word, not rhetorically -- want to reduce the station of man below that of beasts. Because that is the station they have voluntarily reduced themselves to, and it is unbearable, as it ought to be. May they burn in the flames of divine justice as they deserve, Rom. 1:27.

This dickhead is actually proving our point for us.

Nothing illustrates the "slippery slope" better than mandatory seat belt laws.

Unlike our chief here, I do know the history of seat belt laws. I was there and watched it happen right before my eyes.

The only way it could be sold to an unwilling public was to swear that it would never be a "primary enforcement" issue.

It would be a minor fine only allowed to be assessed if you got stopped for some other, more serious moving violation.

Within ten years almost every state in the nation had PRIMARY enforcement seat belts laws.

Another ten years, by around 2005 or so, you got to where we are now.

Roadblocks checkpoints and hundreds of dollars in fines for failing to comply.

That's exactly how they will do guns, if you give them so much as a thousandth of an inch.

No.

Fuck you.

No.

Which it served as a gateway to, because it serves as "probable cause" to stop somebody, demand papers, and sniff around.

You forgot the problem->reaction->solution aspect of this.

People aren't wearing seat belts, so government demanded the auto industry develop "passive restraints" which will protect you even if you do nothing to protect yourself.

The auto industry came up with two things, motor mouse shoulder straps and air bags. Nobody could find a way to put lap straps on you automatically. And gee, either shoulder belts or air bags will kill you if you're not wearing a lap strap, even if the collision is so minor you couldn't possibly have been injured otherwise.

So, because they demanded safety systems that work even if you do nothing (before they were called supplemental restraint systems, they were called passive restraint systems), you are now endangered even in minor thumps, so they have to make lap belt use mandatory.

Asinine.

... motor mouse shoulder straps ...

Asinine.

I'm so glad those things died. It's also an object-lesson in how a sufficiently extreme degree of insanity eventually collapses in on itself.

We must endure for now, but this condition of wanton oppression and enslavement through endless checkboxes is strictly temporary...

I don't see how. The law remains, even though the other thing it mandates, air bags, are not only more dangerous in minor collisions (including knocking the driver's hands off the wheel) and dangerous to tow and salvage workers because they ooze poison, but the activators turned out to be shrapnel grenades.

And yet, like the eugenicists they are, they haven't backed off. They keep mandating more bags.
