Trump’s Favorable Rating Rivals Reagan’s in 1980

People don't know Trump? 2 billion dollars in free TV, hundreds of millions in campaign ads. People know Trump too well, that's where his popularity comes from. He is a reality TV star for cripes sake. The problem with Trump is people already know so much about him, they would have to forget everything they know about Trump in order to actually understand what he is really about.

That's just it. Trump's accomplished, though boisterous character has long been a known quantity, based on thirty years of media exposure and branding. His overall positive and popular image has been the preponderant assessment of the public, slow-baked and deeply embedded in the culture for decades. It has thus taken an awful lot of concentrated, demonizing media bombardment by colluding forces to paint him as being suddenly unlikeable, unpopular and dangerous.

That's microwaved, inauthentic branding, as it does not jibe with what people have experienced with him for a generation. That's the part that's going to be forgotten about in the coming months, as people shake off the impression made by the smear job, and go back to embracing the guy as they've understood him since the '80's.

This is what happens when a presidential candidate goes out and says women should be punished for having abortions, muslims should be banned from the US, libel laws should be opened up so he can sue those reporters writing bad things about him, tell his fans to knock the crap out of protesters, says Japan and S Korea should have nukes, and doesn't rule out nuking Europe, etc...

Okay so just so I know I am understanding you correctly, since you seem to speak in thought bubbles.

1.) Women/minorities love Trump, he is just getting smeared by the media - Trump's brand is a national treasure that he spent billions building up by suing anyone who claims otherwise. He will surely shake off all of his negatives towards women in the comings months, because he is a unicorn.

2.) The democrats aren't going to spend a billion dollars making sure everyone forgets Trumps negatives, and what were the democrats going on about for the last few decades, republicans don't like women, or war on women or something like that, yeah Trump doesn't fit that mold at all. He is going to win the hearts of all women, because women love unicorns!

Trump said all this un-PC stuff last year, didn't affect his standing. The near entire establishment cabal have spent the last two months trashing him, and it has affected his standing. That suggests the cause of his recent dip is the trashing, not his statements.

Your understanding seems to be impaired by blowing anti-Trump bubbles out of a unicorn. Business 101: A long term brand doesn't work unless it's ORGANIC in its reception, that is, the public naturally confirms or validates the value of the product that was originally promoted. Money can only start a major brand, whereas concurring public reception completes the branding process. Trump didn't manufacture thirty years of sustained good will based on lawsuits, in fact it's impossible to generate it that way.

So the whole "Trump is bad with women" is indeed an inauthentic branding meme, ginned up to demonize Trump as the Republican front runner, as it would have been done against any other GOP candidate who emerged as the 2016 front runner. Hillary & Co. were clearly planning to roll out the billions pushing that narrative for years. As a phony meme, no matter how much is spent on it, it is subject to being rejected by the public, who do not find it compatible to Trump's received brand as established over decades, and especially because he has shown the ability to push back against PC, and stand by his push back.

I agree there was a change with how most of the press handled Trump, and it occurred about 1 week before the Wisconsin primary. They stopped letting him get away with saying stupid shit other candidates would have never gotten away with, and realized they get even better ratings for doing so.
