Trump strikes targets in Nigeria

Compared to everything Trump is doing in Venezuela, this is nothing. There's still an AUMF which justified the GWOT and drone strikes against terror targets by every president since Dubya. Obama did similar strikes against "boko haram" with the whole "Bring back our girls" campaign. Why the sudden reinterest in Nigeria now? Not sure.

From what I read their government asked for assistance because of an ongoing problem with radical Islamic groups who are displacing and massacring christians.

It seems like the Christians there had been asking for help for a while now and Trumpclaus brought them a Christmas miracle.

My brother's girlfriend is Nigerian, and ironically, was at my house last night as we got the news. She was conflicted. She hates Trump, but she's a Christian from near Lagos. The Muslims from Northen Nigeria have been killing Christians in the country at an increasing rate. She wanted Biden to launch strikes, but nothing ever happened.

So, she was sorta glad that action was being taken, but didn't want to give Trump credit. I don't know enough about the circumstances to have much of an opinion outside of "how the hell is this Constitutional?!"

The constitution grants the president with the authority of foreign policy.

Biden's foreign policy was different in the sense that he didn't care if millions of people fled to the United States to escape persecution of their freedom of religion.

Trump looks at this more proactively. That country has hundreds of millions of people and if it collapses because terrorists overthrow their government then we are going to have millions of refugees wanting to come to the United States.

The radical Islam the terrorists subscribe to is convert or die. Many Christians would rather die or flee the country. They aren't going to worship what they consider a false religion and get sent to hell for it.

I've got mixed feelings about it. I see some on the left making the argument that the terrorists are killing as many Muslims as they are Christians, but that is typical of these groups, especially Sunni, who see other Muslims (like Shiites) as infidels. Kind of like the Catholic Crusaders burning Constantinople and then years later Orthodox Christians in Constantinople carrying out the massacre of the Latins.

Nigeria has been messed over by Shell Oil for decades. Shell is believed to have engineered the kangaroo court that sentenced environmental activist Ken Sarowewa to death. The documentary covers that.

So what development has happened in Nigeria in 2025 that might peak Trump's interest? Shell has sold its interest in oil in the Niger Delta to Renaissance Oil which is an African owned oil company.

Let's see. What happened when Iran nationalized its oil? Mossadeq was overthrown in a CIA backed coup. What happened when Gaddafi tried to get off of the petro-dollar? The peace deal he had made with the U.S. under Dubya was ignored and Obama helped kill him. What's going on now that Venezuela is trying to sell oil to Russia, China, Iran and Cuba without going through the U.S.? A total air and sea blockade in the name of stopping drugs that weren't headed to the U.S. So yeah, your brother's girlfriend is right to be concerned. @TheCount is right raise concern. Someone (I think it's @Occam's Banana) has the GIF of the ISIS cutout that Uncle Sam puts up everytime it wants to bring "freedom" to a country.

Meanwhile I'll live you with this:

The USA saved Iran from being raped and pillaged by the natzis and then after that the soviet union under FDR and Eisenhower.

The main argument leftists say is that what Eisenhower did interfered with Iran's democracy. Well thats some historical revisionism.

Hitler was elected in a democracy too that doesn't mean he was an angel and thanks to Eisenhower we took Hitler out of power.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

If the USA can stop the Christians from being raped by ISIS that makes them the good guys.

I dont know how anyone can look at the people doing the raping in Nigeria and say those are the good guys.

You're a moron. Hitler was dead way before 1953.

You're a moron. Nobody said Boko Haram were the good guys. The point is that the Christian Nigerian government is being bullied by Trump for a reason. Oil. Trump could have offered assistance to the Christian Nigerian government during his first term. He didn't. It's only after Shell divested from the Niger Delta that Trump all of a sudden "discovered" a problem that Obama addressed before Trump's first term.
