U.S. President Donald Trump will sign an executive order Thursday that fulfills a key campaign promise of shutting down the Department of Education.
According to a White House summary seen by Reuters, the move ensures the department – called “a big con job” by Trump – is no more. The plan is to shift much of the department’s duties to the states, where curricula is determined, as well as other agencies.
Trump’s new education secretary, Linda McMahon, has defended the president’s initiative achieving what would be his first shutdown of a cabinet-level agency.
The Trump administration has already been gutting the agency, as Breitbart News reported.
Its workforce is being slashed in half and there have been deep cuts to the Office for Civil Rights and the Institute of Education Sciences, which gathers data on the nation’s academic progress, much to the anger of Democrat opponents.

Where's Rand? Where's Massie? Where's Ron Paul? Fulfilling a decades long pledge of the Republican party. Thank you Trump!
See, this would be the one place they should be pointing out its not an enumerated power to fund a department of education.
Trump has the legal right do dismantle it. But no... he's using his will as god emperor to do it because he thinks a uneducated populace will be more supportive.
In my state public skool is in state constitution . Love to be rid of it but isnt going . All property tax and about 1/2 of all state tax collected funds it . By doing away w/ it could eliminate property tax and reduce state tax to 2 1/2 percent . Entire rest of state ran on gas tax , sales tax and state tax and surplus w/ balanced budgetThere's a bit of a propaganda war.
The Left is leading people to believe that without the DOE, public schooling would end.
Well somebody needs to tell the Left that public schooling was just fine before the DOE was created in 1979.There's a bit of a propaganda war.

More fantasy ravings.See, this would be the one place they should be pointing out its not an enumerated power to fund a department of education.

If he closed it down without Congress you'd be calling him a dictator, unlike USAID or the FBI, ED was created by Congress. You're right about ED. But you confused it with the Department of Energy, which was created in 1977.
Bureaucrats call Education ED to differentiate them. And if Trump's not man enough to close it down completely, he has ED.
Trump is doing as much as he can without being stopped by SCOTUS and impeached by Congress.
Again, he's fulfilling his promise, as far as it was ever in his power to eliminate it, everyone knew it would take an act of Congress to finish the job all along and he's pushing for one."...they go in on promises and they go out on alibis." -- Will Rogers
