I don't see why not, if the governor requested them.
In DC, the federal Chief Executive has the power to mobilize the NG to enforce the law and suppress violence, regardless of the Home Rule authority's wishes.

It didn't matter in California.
Why shouldn't the federal government just enforce all the laws everywhere all the time?

The NG in California was not enforcing general law.
It was guarding federal facilities.

LOL. I see what you did there. Anyway, I think the change in Birmingham is multi-factorial and I hope it sticks. Basically the murderers pissed off the entire city the year before an election year. There's been a big push against "no snitch" culture. Birmingham as gone from "snitches get snitches" to "I'll hollar for a dollar."
Roy S. Johnson: Is $25k enough to stifle no-snitch fear? If not, this idea may be
HABD CEO David Northern, Sr. is proposing a witness relocation program that may ease fears of returning to an unsafe neighborhood.

Naturally they do love to kill two birds with one stone. But federalization of police is an ongoing project, and Biden era clown show policies and psyops like no cash bail and defunding police have obviously been leading up to this sort of federal "step in to fill the vacuum" type action

If a Birmingham solution can work in DC, that's better than fed troops on the street.
In spite of all that has changed, I'm still not in favor of that.

From the stats you posted DC's 2024 murder rate is still better than Birmingham's currently improved murder rate. Somebody was doing something right to get DC down from 80 murders per 100K to 27 murders per 100K. Right now Birmingham is on track to have 35 murders per 100K which is terrible but much better than the 75 per 100K it had last year. That said, funding the reward for tips on murder cases seems to be a big part of the Birmingham "magic." (Magic city? Get it?) I used to be against anonymous tip lines for case but desperate times call for desperate measures. Long term fixing the education system is key IMO.

That happened just a week after Pulliam filed an equal employment opportunity complaint against an assistant chief and the police union accused the department of deliberately falsifying crime data, according to three law enforcement sources familiar with the complaint.
The union claims police supervisors in the department manipulate crime data to make it appear violent crime has fallen considerably compared to last year.

People here are clearly attacking what Trump did, PAF even cross posted this to another thread as some kind of bad example.
And the article is repeating the leftist talking points about crime being down (even though it's in the news lately about the crime state in DC being falsified) as if it being down from one insane high to a lower insane high somehow means it's not a problem and shouldn't be solved by someone other than the soft on crime leftists that got it to the earlier high and are tolerating the current rates.
