Trump Campaign Says He Believes Obama Was Born in the U.S.

Where did the actual birther movement come from?

I"ve read before Hillary started it by saying he was a muslim, but who actually started the birther movement? People are saying the breitbart story was inaccurate/lied etc... anyways, your thoughts?

I don't know where it came from, but - despite any Trumpkin claims to the contrary - it's always been a nationalist/racist movement.

A few birthers may care about Constitutionality for its own sake, but most are motivated by their disdain for foreigners/non-whites.

For these people Constitutionalism is just pretext.

...as evidenced by their utter lack of concern for Constitutionality in other spheres.

If it turned out that Trump had been born in Scotland, they'd be silent.

Trump is lying. He still think Obama is not American and he is probably right. This is the smart thing to do though.

The MSM got worked by Trump again today.

Birtherism: Where it all began

The answer lies in Democratic, not Republican politics, and in the bitter, exhausting spring of 2008. At the time, the Democratic presidential primary was slipping away from Hillary Clinton and some of her most passionate supporters grasped for something, anything that would deal a final reversal to Barack Obama.

^^^That may have been the first expression of the idea, but I wouldn't call that the origin of the movement.

For Clinton it was just a talking point to achieve some tactical advantage at a certain moment in the campaign.

To find where the movement began, you'd have to find out who were the people who took the idea seriously, started forming groups about it, etc.

I agree, someone's getting played:

The whole thing is irrelevant. We possibly just had a non-American serve as our president and he will finish his 2nd term in a few months regardless of the truth. There is no rule of law.

Meanwhile Trump got a half-hour infomercial for FREE!

Trump has out-played everyone this whole election. Like it or not, the results speak for themselves.

Chester A. Arthur was probably not a "lawful" president, either. Lottsa lies around him & his true place of birth, as well as his father's- pretty much the same stuff you hear about Obama.

Your collectivist tendencies are showing.

The people that understand Adobe Photoshop and have questioned the layers in the fake birth certificate Obama put out are a diverse group of people. What percentage of them do you think are nationalist racists?

Obummer probably does not even know where he was born , but yeah , Trump does not think it was in the US and flip a coin , he could be right . No matter know , Pelosi , Reid & Obummer gave everyone more debt , Obummercare and a food stamp nation .All gifts that will keep on giving .

Interesting... I was complete ignorant to that. Thanks for sharing! +rep

I said liberals are mad. They were. He was.

He links to CNN headlines trying to say they are not mad.

You appear to be confused about the topic of this thread.

The title reads "Trump Campaign Says He Believes Obama Was Born in the U.S."

No one s talking about whether or not "liberals are mad" but you.

Nothing CPUd posted was designed to show that "liberals aren't mad."

His point, which is entirely true, is that Trump just contradicted his long pro-birther record.

I guess you can't process that information, so you have to confuse things, invent a strawman, and then call everybody a liar on the basis of it.

Thats just semantics. But page 4 of that story expands a little on how it lead to lawsuits attempting to disqualify Obama.

The reality is that after the elections the democrats all won, regained majorities in congress. Of course they could disavow and distance themselves from any connection to birtherism as it served no more political purpose. However the "idea" as you call it, planted the seed that remained and continued to sow doubt in the minds of all types of people. The movement was definitely already there and resurfacing in the run up to the 2011 campaign season, therefore Trump merely addressed the movement that was already there.

Regardless, this is absolutely desperate from the Hillary camp to bring this up again. They don't even know the definition of racism anymore. In order for it to be racist, you have to prove Trump did it because of Obama's skin color, zero evidence to support that notion.

I think I just discovered another conspiracy...

I'd say about 80%.

This is based on my own anecdotal observations.

Now they're mostly Trumpkins. Pre-Trump they were mostly Levin type teocons.

Rarely have I come across a birther whose top issue wasn't "killing the terrorists" or "stopping the Mexican invasion" etc.

What explains those questioning whether Cruz being Canadian? Again racism?

You might want to do some research before you embarrass yourself again.
