The Trump administration illegally used thousands of military troops in Southern California, a federal judge said on Tuesday, in a ruling that accused the president of effectively turning nearly 5,000 Marines and National Guard soldiers into a national police force.

The ruling, by Judge Charles R. Breyer of the Federal District Court in San Francisco, came more than two months into a contentious deployment that was set off by immigration protests in June and has since dwindled to about 300 National Guard soldiers. The judge ordered that the remaining troops should either be released or limited to guarding federal buildings, but he placed his injunction on hold for 10 days.

The judge found that President Trump’s deployment had exceeded the limits of federal laws that generally prohibit the use of the military for domestic law enforcement.

Comic idea (I don't have the skills to make it and refuse to use ChatGPT, but here goes):

Scene: Uncle Sam is startled awake from a deep sleep, surrounded by extremely bright light

US: What's going on, why is it so bright?

Voice: Hi, welcome back.

US: Welcome back? What's that supposed to mean? Where am I?

Voice: Oh, heh, you're still recovering. You failed and now you're back here.

US: Failed what?

Voice: Failed the game. Your game-run failed. Sorry, it's always a bit disorientating at first.

US: What game? I'm America. I kick ass and if you don't let me out of here...

Voice: Calm down, there will be none of that in this place

US: What place? Is this heaven? Are you God?

Voice: Oh no, nothing that supreme. God and His heaven are far beyond this place. No, this is just the antechamber between games and, I'm sorry to say, you just lost the game you were playing.

US: Lose? How did I lose?? I was killing terrorists, building back better and passing big, beautiful bills. I was owning the game!

Voice: Well, you broke the rules of the game and that causes you to lose the game. You must achieve your objectives within the rules of the game, otherwise, you lose.

US: What rules?

Voice: Oh, let's see. It looks like the rule that caused you to lose your last supply of health and exit the game was that you couldn't keep crime down without deploying the military. That was a violation of posse comitatus, and completely contrary to the rules established in 1789.

US: What rules established in 1789? What are you talking about??

Voice: The Constitution.

US: Ohhhh, that. Well, see, everybody knows that the Constitution was more like guidelines...

Voice: Well, no, Cap'n Barbossa, it wasn't just guidelines, it was the rules of the game. So you had to obey the Constitution for the game to continue running.

US: Well, surely there are save-points. Let's just go back to the last save point. What is it, Obama?

Voice: No, you were playing the game on full-reality hardness mode, which means there are no save-points. When the game exited, you failed the simulation completely, so it is all a complete loss. Would you like me to load up the 1789 game again and put you back in? We can put it on easy mode this time, and you can use the military to your heart's content, but there are only NPCs in easy mode, no real players.

US: Hmmph **crosses arms** Well, who are you to decide whether I lost the game or not?!?

Voice: Think of me as the Supreme Court for the Supreme Court. In the Declaration of Independence, I am called The People. I am the true, final court of appeal. But I'll leave you alone to process the sting of defeat for a while. It is a bitter thing ...
