Trump adviser: The Donald to go out, meet Iowans

By MAGGIE HABERMAN | 3/11/11 1:22 PM EST Updated: 3/11/11 3:04 PM EST

An adviser to Donald Trump who traveled to Iowa this week said the developer would "sit in Grandma Tilly's house, have a little apple pie with her" in the Hawkeye State in order to "win Iowa."

Cohen, who insisted he traveled to his state in his role as head of a "draft Trump" effort and not on behalf of his boss, told ABC News's "Top Line" that he met with about 18 activists in the state, all of whom showed interest in the "Apprentice" star launching a 2012 campaign.

“You’re going to have to go shake a lot of hands, you’re going to do a lot of travel,” Cohen said. “You’re going to sit in Grandma Tilly’s house, have a little apple pie with her and you’re going to understand exactly the concerns that people in Iowa have. And that’s the only way to win Iowa.”

Cohen also said the state GOP chairman, Matt Strawn, whom he met with briefly in the morning, was "very, very interested in seeing someone like Donald Trump enter the race."

Who the hell refers to oneself in the third person calling themselves "the Donald." He's a candidate without a political philosophy other than nihilism and celebrity.

Will he go door to door telling Iowans that "You're FIRED, the donald is in town!"

He's a candidate without a political philosophy other than nihilism and celebrity.

He's conservative on some issues, moderate on others. The most interesting is he wants a 25% tariff on Chinese goods, which even Democrats wouldn't support. People are trying to discount him as doing this just for publicity, but I think they forget that Trump wanted to run in 2000 but did not. He's likely thought about this for a long time and is finally going to go through with it.

I think his major downfall will be voters not taking him seriously, and having certain positions which don't align with Republican orthodoxy. On the plus side for him, he will probably skewer most of the field in the debates.

Because of his mix on the issues, I don't think he could win a Republican primary, he'll have problems like Ron Paul does, but without the philosophical backing Paul enjoys.

Trump is not going to run - he is an attention seeker, this is all to get attention. He has no clue what he is talking about, it's all hot air.

Wait - you say the proof that he is a sincere candidate, is that he wanted to run in 2000 but did not?

That is puzzling. That proves what? Or even indicates what? He is making the GOP field look like a circus. The Dems hope he is going to do this a long time.

donald is just making folks aware that the gop is truly a joke that it is!! The gop is becoming the punch line of their own joke!! wonder if the gop will try to kill the gop and then ride the tea party express as a so-called 3rd party gop establishment aka screwing over our country again!

I thought you had to get people whispering about you running for president before Fox would give you a show.

Well, at least he'll know how to file bankruptcy for the US.

Yup, I've been hanging them albatrosses on his name everywhere it pops up...

I forget who said it best, "How the hell do you bankrupt a casino anyway?"

Now that Trump has his Jewish handler in place, Michael Cohen, next step, run for President. This must be why Ron Paul has such a tough time, missing this crucial step in the process.
